Kudos to Hobart

I just have to say, the customer service at HOBART is awesome!!!  I noticed that when left sitting, my high pressure gas we leaking into the low pressure side of the regulator.  I called customer service today, told them I got a new 210 MVP for xmas and there was a regulator problem.  He asked for my serial number, my contact information and immediately put a new regulator on order and told me there would be a return label to ship the bad one back.He did tell me to just barely crack open the gas valve, which I did tell him I was doing that, and he said good deal.No accusations, no 20 questions, just hey I see you must have a bad regulator (torn or leaking diaphram) and I will send you a new one....period.This scores a ton of points for me....I am am always willing to share information on good experiences.Hobart 210 MVPOxy/Propane Smith Torch SetupLincoln Wel-Pak 100HD"Courage is being scared to death, but saddling up anyways" ~ John Wayne
Reply:That comment alone is worth more that the reg is worth to a company. Good customer service is worth more than what ever they may have lost if you return a good reg for some reason because you think it's bad. In the mean time you aren't inconvenienced by having to send back the old one and have to wait for the new one to show up..No government ever voluntarily reduces itself in size. Reply:I had a similar experience with Lincoln, but my reg. was damaged when I opened the box.  Lincoln replaced mine, and told me to toss the old one. Reply:@Pipeliner, he said to crack it open slightly until the pressure came up on the gauge, then open all the way.  Said if you shock the reg with full pressure to fast you could rupture the diaphram.  I always back off the reg all the way when I shut the system down and have bled off the pressure, then when starting just crack the valve as he described.He was cool about it, didn't accuse me or even use that "your stupid" tone that we have all heard at one time or another.Hobart 210 MVPOxy/Propane Smith Torch SetupLincoln Wel-Pak 100HD"Courage is being scared to death, but saddling up anyways" ~ John Wayne

Reply:I've been impressed by the Hobart service and support people.  There are a couple of items in some older small welders that occasionally go bad.  They tell you how to get a couple of off-the-shelf items and solder them in for maybe $10 worth of parts.  Can't beat that. Reply:Just a little update, I received the new regulator today, they 2nd day air'd it to my house.  The regulator they sent was a Smith unit from Miller to replace my "made in china" one that was bad.  This is awesome, a nice made in the USA regulator from Miller to replace my HOBART!These are some great people, sent a label for me to send the defective one back...I bet they shove it up the chinese makers a$$ Hobart 210 MVPOxy/Propane Smith Torch SetupLincoln Wel-Pak 100HD"Courage is being scared to death, but saddling up anyways" ~ John Wayne

Reply:Hobart customer service is good.  Since many of the machines are sold through, TSC, northern tool, or farm and fleet stores the customer service is geared to hobby users and part timers.  About the regulators.  Hobart started putting a "Hobart" regulator with their machines in very early 2011.  On my machine I bought direct from TSC in early 2011 the box still showed the USA Smith.  The "Hobart" is a finely machined "china" regulator.  Decent gauges and a lot of metal.  Far heavier than the cheapo Harris Lincoln gives out.  I really do not think they save $3 or $4 between the smith and hobart as I have seen the promotional item smith regulator sell for $59 at TSC before.  The Hobart regulator is far better than the harbor freight-type stuff.
