Oxygen and acetylene cylinders..worth saving?

Happened across 2 old oxygen cylinders and one acetylene cylinder. These are pretty old , they will have to be hydro tested for sure, and maybe that's completely out of the question with the condition they're in..I've had one tested in the past and it turned out good. I thought I'd see if there's anyone that knows a little more about it.. Hopefully these pictures help...Sent from my XT1080 using Tapatalk

Reply:Depends entirely on your local welding shop.  What is the condition of the valves?  As long as the valves are in decent shape, they might be salvageable.  I picked up a few in pretty bad shape recently, but the valves all looked OK.  I cleaned them up as best I could, hit them with a soft wire wheel on a 4.5" air grinder, and then repainted all three (oxy/acetylene set and an Argon bottle).  I painted the oxy green, acetylene black, and the Argon Ford safety blue.  Two of the bottles were out of test date, but I crossed my fingers and took them to my gas guy.  He took all three bottles, charged me for one recert fee, and never blinked an eye at swapping them over.  Not bad considering I had around $35-45 in all three bottles (paint included).
Reply:Is that oxygen bottle a rental? Most private bottles don't have a name of the supplier on the neck ring.Didn't Airgas buy up Airco's bottles?I'd take them into your supplier and exchange them for full bottles. Depending on the place they may or may not charge you for the hydro on exchange. I wouldn't paint them. Let the supplier handle that after hydro if they feel the need.

Reply:I agree with forhire . I took a old cylinder in with a last test date of 1970 and they exchanged it out. It depends on local supplier, they all have their own policies and prices

Reply:Sheesh those things are just babies.  I could swap them without question.  But, if all else fails the wind chime people will buy them.

Reply:You should have seen the persons face when we were walking around an old farm place and I seen those tanks laying in a heap of junk, I said "hey would you be interested in getting rid of those tanks?" They said " what in the hell would you want those rusty P.OS. things for? If you want them go ahead!" So I unburried them out of a ton of stuff, drug them into my truck...I figured if they weren't any good , no loss.. Its those type of chances I like to take...and if they are good. .... Rock on!
