Reply:What a waste. It's worth whatever current scrap prices are. If it is at all salvageable it's going to take a ton of work to get going.http://all-a-cart.comWelding Cart Kits and accessories
Reply:Yep, it's gonna take a day or two to get that thing back in biddness.Got a way you can dunk the whole thing & electrolytic de-rust it?MarkI haven't always been a nurse........Craftsman 12"x36" LatheEnco G-30B MillHobart Handler 175Lincoln WeldandPower 225 AC/DC G-7 CV/CCAdd a Foot Pedal to a Harbor Freight Chicago Electric 165A DC TIG PapaLion's Gate Build
Reply:I might haul it off if they gave it to me.They are kind of fun to restore but you have a lot of work ahead of yourself with that one.
Reply:Too bad it wasn't abandoned in West Texas, maybe Marfa or Sanderson... then it'd have surface rust and be filled with sand  but  much easier to break loose and work.  Where is it? Reply:What a shame! Thats a good sized lathe.I doubt it will ever be any good as an accurate lathe again.Might be good for something like spraywelding shafts if the spindle could be freeded up.I was on a job site a while back and there was a lathe and a vertical mill sitting outsidein a parking lot. When I asked about them I was told that"everyone wanted to buy them"but they would be scrapped due to some sort of legal issue.Sad.Miller a/c-d/c Thunderbolt XLMillermatic 180 Purox O/ASmith Littletorch O/AHobart Champion Elite

Reply:I wouldn't give $100 for that machine. It is scrap and isn't worth hauling.  I just sold a lathe this past week.  Here is what I sold for $1000.1924 Boye & Emmes Machine Tool Company 18” Lathe.  Comes with 4-jaw chuck, face plate, steady rest, 1-1/2 HP single phase motor, motor starter.  It is a conehead machine and has an overhead belt drive. It has some wear, but everything works, nothing broken or missing.  Will hold .001” tolerance.  Excellent garage/hobbyist lathe.  Turnkey machine.  $1000.There are plenty of old machines out there in running condition.  Why fool with junk? Reply:Right now on the slow speed (small to large cone), it is about 110 rpm.  That is too fast for me.  I have a big 5 to1 gear reducer and some other sheaves that will make the center cones at 76 rpm. The large to small cones (fast speed) will be 114 rpm, the small to large cones (slow speed) will be 50 rpm.  There are 2 back gears also.  One is 11 to 1 reduction and the other is 3.5 to 1 reduction. So, the fast speed will be 114, 32 and 10 rpm. The center cones will be 76, 22 and 7 rpm. The slow speed will be 50, 14 and 4.5 rpm.   It will operate mostly on the center cones. Apron handwheel is bent up pretty good. Likely the shaft is too. You'll have a blast cleaning all the heavy rust off it & fixing the busted stuff before realizing it has a HUGE 3 phase motor that will need a considerable amount of juice to run it on even a quality phase converter or VFD control.Oh, moving it will suck too. Bet it's at least 6500#, possibly more.No need going into a bunch of detail about why, lots of nice lathes out there for what this guy wants for a total POS not worth the scrap it's made out of.He's waiting for a class A sucker to come along & give him a grand for it.IMHO of course.
