I have to ask cause so far in the past 2 years ive got 9 welders...some of them ive flipped for profit others i keep just cause they were a good deal and couldnt say no...like for instance tomorrow im going to buy 2 thermal arc fabricator 140's for 125 bucks...one works other is missing the whip..which i happen to have a spare here...what i have had so far ( millermatic 120 (broken) fixed and sold) lincoln sp100, thermal arc 181i (sold regret selling) lincoln sae 400( rebuild in progress...on hold till parts arrive) Powcon 200sm. mastercraft mig ( great for tacking body panels) mastercraft 70amp stick welder(bought with the craftsman mig for 100 bucks all together). century 88amp mig (gave away to a friend) lincoln ac/dc 225 stick welder( picked up and resold to a friend)....im no pro welder by any means but i really do enjoy welding and always find myself on kijiji looking at welders.ive gotten some killer deals, cleaned them up and resold them for a lil profit. i think my next buy after tomorrow will be a more portable gas powered stick welder. seen a good deal on red d arc gx200 the other day but its now gone . i know nothing high end but im trying to work my way up to getting some bigger toysLast edited by dpasch; 04-27-2015 at 08:21 PM.Reason: cause im retarded and cant spellCentury 88amp 110v migCentury 100, 110migPowcon200smThermal Arc 140 migThermal Arc Fabricator 211i

Reply:I have 4 welders at the moment but never considered myself addicted to them. I do have other tooling addictions that I acknowledge over the years but seem to have not been willing to do much about it. I think going out and searching for tools or whatever that one does not really need is a waste of life.I am 45 and probably would surprise even myself if I researched how many lifetime supplies of this or that that I have.I act better upon my faults when I see them in other people. There is a Youtube machinist that goes by MrPete22. He is a talented, amicable funny guy. But he is up in years and I have to ask myself what really does he hope to accomplish by dragging home yet another lathe. He already has a lifetime supply of them.  You could call it a passion but is it really a good one? Like Bob said "you can keep the cars. Leave me the garage."
Reply:Just as with any other skill, 98% operator, 2% machine. That said, I do drool over welding machines from time to time. But then I remind myself, that I still have a lot to learn and the machine that I have can get me there if I put in the time. This is coming from a former fabricator, turned hobbyist. My needs are of course completely different than others.. Once I get my "shed" erected though, I may be on the market for a nice AC TIG unit! -NicheLast edited by NicheFab; 04-27-2015 at 09:47 PM.

Reply:I have all blue ones. This way they all look the same to my wife.Hi my name is Chay and I'm a weldaholic.Seriously though, I keep on getting parts for my one welder. The last thing I did was fix my miget gun...broken wire in the cable...no wonder it was difficult to weld with..Now it puts out 047 AL all day long.Seems like I need to step up and start putting some extra boxes in the shop...I've been contemplating building a IGBT chopper 300A CV mig from scratch though...unless craigslist can give me one first...I can't figure out what I like more, building stuff or welding stuff.Chay

Reply:I've had 7 welders in the past year, 3 Miller 350LXs, Idealarc 250/250, Lincoln SP125 plus, Century AC/DC 140/200 (IIRC), TA Fabricator 210.  Have kept the Idealarc, one 350LX and The TA 210.Bought a Clausing 12x24 lathe a year ago and an Esab PCM 500i plasma cutter about 6 months ago.  Keeping both.Am currently into band saws:  Horizontal:    Bought a Wilton (Taiwan) horizontal 7x12 a year or so ago.  Bought a Kalamazoo horizontal 9x16 a few weeks ago.  Wilton works fine, I just wanted bigger, so will sell the Wilton.Vertical:  Had a Craftsman 12" wood saw and sold it when I bought two Craftsman industrial grade 14" 2 speed saws from Hewlett Packard facility in Sandston, VA.  Sold one at my flea market.  The Craftsman is too fast for steel and I don't want to invest in variable speed controller so will sell it.Bought a Rockwell 20" metal cutting vertical with blade welder about 2 months ago.  Works great on a static phase converter.  Height specs were incorrectly stated.  It is 2 inches too tall to get through the shop door and I'm not willing to lay it down and try to upright it in my basement.  Am operating it under cover but I want a saw inside my shop.    So,  will sell it.  Bought a Kalamazoo 30" 3 wheel vertical with blade welder Tuesday and will pick it up next Tuesday in Fredricksburg, VA. It will fit through the doors and run on phase converter.  Hope I'm done for a while. So does my wife.  It truly is a sickness.    JerryLast edited by storeman; 05-01-2015 at 09:17 PM.30+ yrs Army Infantry & Field Artillery, 25 yrs agoMiller 350LX Tig Runner TA 210, spool gunLincoln 250/250 IdealArcESAB PCM 500i PlasmaKazoo 30"  vert BSKazoo 9x16 horiz BSClausing 12x24 lathe20T Air Press

Reply:Yeah who says a 110 welder leads to heavier desires for bigger stronger ones! Every hobby welder has to have at least 4, so in the past month I have bought a chop saw a HF bender and a drill press, see I can control the welder thing, after I sell one and get a couple more, I know I won't ever need any more!
