Well, managed to get my hands on a Milwaukee 4210 magdrill decently cheap at an auction. It looks to have been used but not abused. It has the 3/4" drill chuck on it currently. I realize this doesn't have any ability to use coolant of any sort, but does that limit my ability to drill any with annular cutters? Also, I realize annular cutters come in several different "stem" configurations. Can the 4210 be converted to taper style? Is there a need to? Any help would be appreciatedMiller: 200dx, Bobcat 225, Passport, Powermax 45, Milwaukee: Dry Saw, MagDrill, grinders
Reply:Might be wrong (as I usually am), but I thought the 3/4" chuck had a mts shank on the other end. As I said I'm not sure so don't go hammering on it. I've used one quite awhile ago and it did, mind you I'm not saying yours does. They're an awsome drill btw, heavy as all get out tho...Mike
Reply:I've got a milwaukee with a 3/4" chuck as well and I got this adpater from Mcmaster.com to use Jancy cutters. Reply:You can just use a plastic soda pop bottle filled with water & squirt a steady stream of water on the annular cutter as it's cutting. Just poke a small hole in the bottle cap.
Reply:JohnRI've had good results with Tap Magic cutting fluids. The liquid and the aerosol work great for cutting with annular cutters.BrianLincoln Mig 215Miller 211Victor Torch SetMiller Maxstar 200SDMiller Syncrowave 250DX Tig runnerMiller Trailblazer 302 running on LPMiller Extreme 12 VS SuitcaseEllis 1600 BandsawMiller xmt350 CC/CVLincoln Vantage 300

Reply:Also, will a 1" hole saw (not annular cutter) be able to cut through 1/2" plate, say 10 holes?Miller: 200dx, Bobcat 225, Passport, Powermax 45, Milwaukee: Dry Saw, MagDrill, grinders
Reply:Originally Posted by JohnRWould this be considered a "Weldon" shank style adapter? Most annular cutters I see on ebay are considered "Weldon" shank.I called Milwaukee tools tech support asking if it was possible to convert the motor from one style to another, but they said no. That I was limited to holesaws, twistbits, and their line of (overpriced) cutters with 3/4" shanks. That adapter, if it allows me to use common annular cutters, would be a good thing. Any chance on an OAL and mounting length (end of chuck to end of adapter) on that adapter BSOK?
Reply:It's kind of a stubby shank but I was able to chuck an annular cuttter right into a 3/4" chuck on my drill press and try it out. Worked fine. The hole saw will work on 1/2" plate. On really thick plate/large diameter a drilled hole on the inside tangent to the saw path will allow chips to clear. Otherwise just periodically lift the bit.Last edited by Brad Blazer; 09-14-2010 at 11:40 AM.Lincoln SA200, HH135, Lencospot, HF80 Inverter, Rockwell 11x35 lathe, HF drill mill, Kama 554 tractor w/ FEL & BH, Belarus 250AS, lot's of Chinese tools
Reply:Ditto on a hole or several smaller holes drilled around circumference to allow for chip evacuation. Re-cutting the chipsor allowing them to clog up really accelerates cutter wear. We have used mag drills to cut lots of holes in large (10'x 20') trench shields to install foam insulation into cells. We made a dam with modeling clay around hole to keep cutters immersed in fluid during cut.
Reply:I use rapid tap, or stick wax when it is upside down, the coolant bottle has long since been gone.Disclaimer; "I am just an a$$hole welder, don't take it personally ."
Reply:Weldon shank:http://www.tools-n-gizmos.com/specs/Tapers.html#WeldonBasically any shank that has one or more Weldon flats on it.
Reply:While hole saws do work and are tolerable you drill one hole in a half inch plate with a hole saw,,,,,,,,, drill one next to it with an annular cutter,,,,,,,, you'll put that hole saw in a drawer and for get you've got it."The things that will destroy America are prosperity at any price, peace at any price, safety first instead of duty first, the love of soft living and the get rich quick theory of life." -Theodore Roosevelt
Reply:Exactly sandy. Holesaws for wood and sheet metalG
