chop saw blades

I went to buy some 14" blades today for my chop saw, I noticed there were two kinds.(Norton)  One was called a metal cutting blade and it is used on the high speed gas powered saws, the other is called a chop saw blade. I've been using the high speed blades, not realizing there was a difference. The high speed blades appear to have more woven material holding them together, and they cost a tad more. I bought some of each today, to see which ones work best. Reply:I've run both since I have both a gas saw and a std chop saw. The gas saw blades work fine in the std saws, but not the other way around. I almost always buy the blades for the gas saw since that way it's imposible to mix the blades up after the lable is gone in a few cuts. The standard blades will wobble and then blow apart after about 15-30 seconds at the high rpms of the demo saw. It's NOT a fun experience! Every so often one of the guys buys the wrong blade and fires the saw up and goes balls to the wall right away. You know they F'd up a few seconds later when they scream as the blade detonates. If they spin it up slow like they are supposed to witha new blade they will quickly see the blade flex and wobble in time to shut the saw down.Be aware they also have concrete/ block blades in both types (standard and gas) as well. The block blade lables are green, the steel ones blue IIRC..No government ever voluntarily reduces itself in size. Government programs, once launched, never disappear. Reply:agreeda couple of bucks extra for the gas blades in your chop saw is cheap insurance...and please stick with major brands i.e. Norton and stay away from HF blades in this use.  Can you say grenade?
