Building a tool/workbench.  .125 steel, 10ga top.  8 ft wide, 30in deep, 38 in surface height.  Not finished yet, gets doors in the three openings, paint, a removable vise, 8ft fluorescent light overhead, interior lights, and an electrical outlet.
Reply:Looks good so far. How did you bend the top or did you buy it like that?

Reply:I have an 8ft finger brake and a 10 ft shear that both handle up to full lengths of 3/16, bent every piece on this myself.  Every piece so far is bent except the angle iron used to support the rear of the shelves.  There's a 4x8 sheet of 10ga for the top, and a bit more than a 5x10 sheet of .125 for the sides, bottom, door posts, and shelves.  Doors will be 14 ga bent on the brake with lockable paddle handles. Back will be .040 white aluminum riveted on.  I'll finish it next weekend.  And I do sell them, all custom built.  About $1000 for an 8ft, I've built 4ft and 6ft ones as well.  Dad has 5 of them in his garage.
Reply:did you notice any warping on the 10 gauge top when you welded it on?
Reply:I need to "borrow" you sheet metal gear for a while! How far from Texas are you???

Reply:nice looking bench with lots of room. is that pipe going to be a receiver for a vise so it can be removed and out of the way? i noticed you have it protruding above the bench top which still might interfere with larger work.i.u.o.e. # 15queens, ny and sunny fla
Reply:Doc, that pipe is the receiver for the vise.  It will be flush, in the picture the drop in tube is bolted in there so I didn't lose it.Hobart, no warping, all the bends keep it straight, plus it's only stitch welded 2" about every 8-10 inches, it's more for wrenching on the various lawn equipment and storage of all the crap laying around on my garage floor, so being perfectly true is not a big deal anyways.  Also I built it upside down so the top was the first piece made and everything else welded to that, much easier to keep the top straight.Gravel, I'm in eastern Iowa right on the Mississippi River.Last edited by toofast_28; 02-02-2014 at 11:16 AM.

Reply:It's looking great already, very solid, has nice proportions and like the drawers. Looking forward to the finished product.
Reply:Ready for paint.  painting it tonight. If there's anything anyone wants specific pictures of let me know.
Reply:Love the build man!
Reply:Thought. How about an adjustable arm on the back and dead center with a multiple L.E.D. light ring instead of a fluorescent 8' fixture overhead ?Twist a couple of wing nuts and put it where you want it.Bubble gumTooth pixDuct tapeBlack glueGBMF hammerScrew gun --bad battery (see above)
Reply:Burpee, good idea, made a 4ft tall light mount already, going to put 4x8 of pegboard on it.
Reply:$1000 for that is too cheap.  You could prolly double your price and not be out of line.My name's not Jim....
Reply:Boost, while I do agree, I don't find many buyers at $1000 either.  Don't really advertise, but the walk in customers amount to about 3-4 a year.  Shipping is obviously an issue, but I might throw this one on eBay and see if I get any bites.  The buyers I've had see one and immediately want one though.  If you look at metal garage cabinets online (aluminum) you'd probably pay $3000 for something comparable and it'd be way lighter duty.
Reply:Dry overnight and a little assembly in the morning and she'll be ready to go home.

Reply:That's a nice looking bench! How heavy is it?PlasmaCam CNC cutterLathe and Band SawClamps
Reply:Yes it is a very great looking work bench
Reply:Thanks! I haven't weighed it but figuring the amount and sizes of the steel I used it's about 420lbs plus the handles, .040 aluminum sheets (back), and casters.  Call it 430-435 and I bet I'm pretty close.Looks really nice man.  Good job.
Reply:Wow that thing belongs in the living room, not the garage! Awesome build.
Reply:Thanks.  I'll get a few more pics of it in use soon.
