As the title states. Anyone know where I can pick some 1/8" plates up? I saw Eastwood sells them but seems a bit overpriced at $20 for a 4"x4" piece.

Reply:Copper plates are spendy. Just the way it is. I have them because I use old throw away buss bars and battery bars from work. If had had to pay the price I'd do like Burpee says, hammer one out of some scrap."The things that will destroy America are prosperity at any price, peace at any price, safety first instead of duty first, the love of soft living and the get rich quick theory of life." -Theodore Roosevelt
Reply:I get mine from a rain gutter manufacturing place here in Austin.  For some reason they have not only the thin gutter stuff, but much thicker pieces as well.  They sell their drops cheap.Miller Syncrowave 350Millermatic 252/ 30A spoolgunMiller Bobcat 225g w/ 3545 spoolgunLincoln PowerArc4000Lincoln 175 Mig  Lincoln 135 Mig Everlast 250EX TigCentury ac/dc 230 amp stickVictor O/AHypertherm 1000 plasma

Reply:usually you can purchase copper bars at your local scrap yard. they usually have all sizes and shapes they sell by the pound just like they buy by the pound.

Reply:Online Metals has added a copper category. It's not cheap anymore but this might be among the least pricy sources for sized copper - bars, sheets, rod, etc.  http://www.onlinemetals.com/merchant...966&top_cat=87Also, Eastwood has a couple of copper plates with magnets added to hold them in place.  If you go for one of those be careful not to get the magnets hot. Arc welded magnets ain't magnets anymore - they die.Last edited by hill; 01-12-2014 at 07:47 PM.MM210TA186TA95sLincoln AC/DC Tombstonegood old Smith torch setup 24v Readywelder mig w/spoolgunSB H 10 latheBridgeport mill6x12 K.O.Lee surface grinderK.O.Lee tool/cutter grinder

Reply:I have a bin full at work, we laser cut bus bars and the scrap can be 5" x 16" sometimes. Try a scrapyard or lasercut shop. They conduct better than aluminum, I like the 1/4" ones, I also have a few 1/8"pieces bent 90 and filled square for box corners. Worth their weight in... copper!Last edited by Brazin; 01-12-2014 at 10:15 PM.SqWave 200Millermatic 190Airco 200 ACHypertherm PM45Boice-Crane Band SawVictor O/A
