hi. What do you think about my tig welding? any adivice will help me, i am self-taught. it is a little shakey, but it is very cold in my shop.. 5 mm steel , about 100 amps.

Reply:Steffen,Your weld looks OK. More and more practice will give you more consistency and control over the width of the puddle; the size and spacing of the weld bead ripples.One suggestion I would make is to do a very thorough job of cleaning the metal in the area you're welding. TIG has a limited capability to deal with contaminants and oxides from the metal surface. I recommend grinding the weld area and 2cm on either side back to bright clean metal before welding. A quick wipe with alcohol or acetone never hurts either. Cleanliness for aluminum welding is even more critical.
