I tried to post this once and failed, so here's the abbreviated version: I just bought a used SW 175 tig machine, and it seems to have a few quirks that I could use some advice on.  The biggest issue is the fact that I had to cycle all of the switches a number of times to get it to finally perform the 15 second gas flow when you turn it on.  The first few times I turned it on, I got a moderate buzzing sound for 15 seconds, and no gas.  Pressing the pedal produced a weak arc, the same moderate buzzing, and still no gas.   Finally, after fiddling with the switches for a while in hopes of cleaning them up (it hadn't been used in a while), I got reliable gas flow and much louder buzzing when it turned on and when I pressed the pedal.  That takes us to issue #2.  The pedal doesn't seem to control the arc intensity at all, and the arc doesn't stop until the 15 second gas post flow stops.  Is the pedal bad?  Any recommendations for testing it? I already did the pins D & E switching test pre the manual, and it checks out OK.  Lastly, one of the times I touched the tig/stick switch, I got a jolt.  The machine is very well grounded.  Should I just take it to a shop and have them check it out?   Thanks
Reply:OK, it just zapped me through the tig/stick switch for the second time.  The machine was turned off.  It's time to take it to a pro to get it checked out.
Reply:OK, I got in there with a meter last night and found the source of the problem.  Before I used the machine for the first time, I puchased a longer power cable from the local welding shop, and they miswired the plug end.  End result was that I had 110 going to the ground lug and one of the power leads was grounded.  The machine does some weird stuff when it's only got 110v.  All is well now and this machine is awesome!  This is my first time with a tig, but after a couple of hours getting the settings right and burning some steel,  it felt just like gas welding, which I have a couple hundred hours experience with.  Now to try aluminum...
