Hi guys found a Logan 200-210 lathe over the weekend .Everything seems to be in decent shape EXCEPT.....when i inspected the gearbox I noticed some missing teeth on some of the gears .I checked on ebay and seems like the gears are not that expensive to replace but have heard missing teeth is not a good thingin terms of abuse of the machine.I took some pics of  that ill attach I basically am gonna use it for facing off pieces and power tapping round stock. If I can get the machine for $250.00 Do you think it is worth it or should I just pass it up ? Appreciate any advice ...........Thanks, Attached Images
Reply:This lathe is one that Wards marketed for Logan kind of in competition with Sears. One thing, it does not have a QC gear box which is for quickly changing feed rates and for threading. To make these changes on this lathe, you need the change gears. Does the seller have them? If not, you'd have to buy them or be stuck with what's on there. There is a QC tool post on the lathe, can't tell if it's an Aloris or cheaper knock-off.Price, can't tell about all the functions, but if he's got the change gears $250 sounds fair if you are looking at just "facing"....power tapping? explain more of that.
Reply:I agree with dunemetal.  Bare minimum, you need the gears on the tumble reverse replaced.  Then, I would look for a set of quick change gears.  If they are 16 DP (diametrical pitch) 14 1/2 degree pressure angle, I have a set of cutters for them and could make you a set of gears.  If they are different, it may be easier for you to go to ebay.
