Restoration Software

One of my hobbies is restoring cars. The other one is programming.  Put them together and you get a program for restoring cars.I've written a Freeware program that helps record information associated with a restoration.  It tracks expenses, has a task list, an activity log, a vendor list, shop inventory, vehicle assessment, photo index, and much more.  I reviewed a few of the other commercial programs already out there. A couple were pretty nice but none did exactly what I wanted so I wrote my own.It's pretty much done but hasn't been tested on any computers except my own PC at home.  Therefore, I'm looking for a few beta testers to put the program through its paces and report back on bugs.  If you're interested in helping me out on this shoot an email to [email protected].  Once I'm sure the program is safe in various environments I'll find some place to host it and everyone can download it.ThanksCurt
Reply:Will it work on OSs other than MS?  I run most of my freeware and open-source stuff on FreeBSD7.2 (UNIX derivative) on one of my computers, since it is less susceptible to security and viral concerns.  It's an old computer that won't even run winders any more.  I might be able to put your program through some limited testing on a garden tractor restoration I'm going to be doing soon.  I am also renovating a couple of homes.  Would your program be applicable to things other than vehicles?TonyMiller Maxtron 300Miller Spoolmatic 3Victor Journeyman II"Twern't my ignorance done me in, but what I knowed that wasn't so."  Uncle Tom's Cabin
Reply:Tony,I'm not sure if it will run on your system.  The memory requirements are low but I do think a windows platform or some kind of interpreter would be needed.It's really set up for vehicular type projects.  I guess it could be used for a home if you didn't mind the automotive references.
Reply:No way for user customization?  Of course, I guess I could use Excell for that.  My winders computer is having trouble right now.  Did a windows update in September and that's the last time it worked right (actually, just before the update was the last time it worked right).  I suspect MS has left Vista hanging to promote W7.  So, I'm not adding anything to the Windows computer right now, until I get this worm or virus fixed.  I'll keep track of this thread and see what develops later.  This sounds like a program I would use, but I don't have a car I'm working on right now.  Have some car projects in mind, but gotta get these houses done first.TonyMiller Maxtron 300Miller Spoolmatic 3Victor Journeyman II"Twern't my ignorance done me in, but what I knowed that wasn't so."  Uncle Tom's Cabin
Reply:RaindemI would love to try that software. I am not into cars, but i do a lot of motorcycles. On average i redo and rebuild on average 6 to 7 bikes a year. This would help me figure out a lot of stuff. Keep me posted on thisAaron
