This is my second machining project. The first being a chuck key for my 4 jaw chuck. I decided I wanted to machine my own wedding band for me and my fiance's upcoming wedding. I decided on 316 stainless. Honestly probably not the best material to choose for my second project but it was a good learning curve. The main thing I learned is that the reeves drive on my lathe suuuucks. Its most likely that I need to find a way to tighten the belts but it sucked none the less. I machined the ring out of 1.125 bar stock. I bored it to an internal diameter of .802 for a ring size of 10 3/4. Then machined the stepped face on the o.d. Then realized I didn't have any parting tool. So I went on down to lowes and bought a circular saw blade and cut out my own carbide parting tool blades. I think it turned out pretty good what u guys think? Attached Images

Reply:Looks good to me if a bit simple. It does depend on what she thinks though. Originally Posted by DSWYeah tell us how this goes over.... " Look honey I made us wedding bands from scrap! Reply:Hahaha I only made my own band. No way in hell I would of suggested making hers. She thinks its awesome though and does want me to make her one. I know its simple but like I said this is only the second thing i've ever machined. I had planed on doing diagonal slits on the raised face to look like a cable or rope but without a mill I would of been left to try it free hand with a file. So I just left it as is for now and I like it.

Reply:Hi, I once went out with a girl that was deeply into Nature things and the environment etc, and I said if we got engaged I'd get her a ring that would compliment her Nature loving mind set.....so I took some grass and plaited it into the form of a ring, all very natural fibres etc, and the grass came from my old man's garden where no herbicides were used.....that was over 50 years ago.....I've never heard any more form her since then.......did I perhaps say something to offend her?Ian. |
