... And dry, free of condensation. This is my small backyard. I've been throwing a tarp over the welder and tank to keep the regulator dry. But I'm worried about moisture in the air. I don't have room for a shed. I was thinking of building a case or something so that I wouldn't have to unhook everything. Just pop it off and go. Does anyone know if the internals will become corroded? Keeping it out of the rain is the easy part...Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Reply:Entry way closet and problem solved - heck it even has a handle Tarps always seem to collect moisture - not sure how to prevent that except keep the bottom open and the tarp not wrapped tight around the machine.Dave J.Beware of false knowledge; it is more dangerous than ignorance. ~George Bernard Shaw~ Syncro 350Invertec v250-sThermal Arc 161 and 300MM210DialarcTried being normal once, didn't take....I think it was a Tuesday.

Reply:Weld yourself up a bad *** cylinder with abig handhole like the old time boilers. Put your  welder in it and draw a vacuum after use, should keep the moisture off. Either thator build a tool box and hang a light bulb in it tokeepthe temp up, should keep everything dry.
Reply:build an outside dog house.  now it's out of the elements and trespassers may have second thoughts.i.u.o.e. # 15queens, ny and sunny fla

Reply:See I just erected a nice vinyl fence which keeps the arc flash away from the neighbors. If I buy more yard then I'll have to do all that digging again. In concrete. They just wonder what the zzzz sound is. One came out and thought a power line was down. I said, well, you were sort of right. I'm just using it to melt steel. I just bought a deck box last week. But i then realized I don't feel like constantly unhooking the gas. A small dog house shed is a really good idea. And I can keep my gear in the deck box. My wife is tired of tripping over the welder on the kitchen floor. Damn thing is a pain to take downstairs in the basement shop every other day. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Reply:Since steel flash rust even if it's kept out of the rain, I wonder what's happening to the inside of the welder. I'd really like to weld in my basement and install a dryer vent to suck out the fumesSent from my iPhone using TapatalkLast edited by Seawalker; 05-28-2015 at 05:20 PM.

So he had to move his rather large lathe and mill into the basement.  To do this, he cut about a 5 ft. x 8 ft. opening in the middle of the kitchen floor and dropped the stuff through using a huge custom assembled gantry.  He put a nice looking trap door "plug" in the floor so he could remove stuff if necessary."USMCPOP" First-born son: KIA  Iraq 1/26/05Syncrowave 250 w/ Coolmate 3Dialarc 250, Idealarc 250SP-175 +Firepower TIG 160S (gave the TA 161 STL to the son)Lincwelder AC180C (1952)Victor & Smith O/A torchesMiller spot welder

Reply:Tarps serve a similar function to funnels, they bring a lot of water to a small place. A funnel, because you want it to, a tarp, because you don't. Your wife brings home a piece of plaster sculpture you hate, cover it with a tarp. A welder, should not be covered with a tarp. Either build an aluminum cake case, or at least use an 18 gallon plastic tote upside down. You want to limit air movement. Baking in the sun will tend to dry, cold raw weather will tend to make condensation. Do not leave the bottom exposed to air flow.A proper dry kiln for firewood allows air flow on warm low humidity days, but closes vents when cooler, or high humidity. An optimist is usually wrong, and when the unexpected happens is unprepared. A pessimist is usually right, when wrong, is delighted, and well prepared.
Reply:I saw you mentioned that dealing with the gas hose was a pain.  Maybe you should get a Koike quick-disconnect for it.  Works just like an air hose disconnect, and just as fast.  You can get sets that leave the hose with the regulator or sets that leave the hose with the welder / feeder.  I've also made up a few hoses with QD's at each end.  They're not cheap, but you get what you pay for when it comes to welding hose disconnects.
