Hobart Arcstar 251nt problem

So I have bought from auction a long standing Hobart Arcstar 251nt welder generator. Starts and runs very well, but doesn't weld or generate power on 240v sockets. What should be first things to look at. Thanks.
Reply:check the brushes on the slip rings. one might be stuck and not making contact.
