Reply:why is this better then gas mig ?
Reply:yea, I dunno, looks pretty strait forward, wirefeeder on tig-torch, but the oscillation of the wire speed, that's throwin me off.I just hate when I see stuff that's like "less operator skill required"I do a decent amount of copper piping also, so I guess I feel about this how I feel about pro-press. cool, but the inevetible is that eventually, my 4 year old will be able to do my job. technology is not far offbosses stuff:trailblazer 325maxstar 200my stuff:sa 200fronius transpocket 180100 amp Lincoln w/f97 f350 DITKevin

Reply:Basically this is automated tig being used as a hand-held process.....?
Reply:Interesting that they can squeeze out more quality from the tig process, but can't manage to squeeze out any more quality from a video camera. How do you know the blacksmith's dog? When you hollar at him he makes a bolt for the door!
Reply:Saw that rig @ FABTECH'13.  Ain't ripping into any tight spaces with that getup.  $17k.  No thanks.  With that scratch you get get a fleet of BLUE or RED equipment to work all arc processes."Discovery is to see what everybody else has seen, and to think what nobody else has thought" - Albert Szent-Gyorgyi
Reply:@ 7A749 - tell Duane that we need to talk, that is, talk-him-outta that silly idea.  LoL.  Thinking Duane would be best served with a Big BLUE 350 PipePro Cat Turbo Welder/Generator.  He'd even have $2k of juice remaining to buy accessories. Reply:Wire feed with Tungsten has been around for a very long time.  First time I saw it was in the 1990's  I am sure we will see more and more automatic processes that are compact and will take field abuse as the cost of labour goes up.  The wire feed TIG is ideal for cladding.  You could even build up surfaces with aluminum bronze as well as all kinds of exotic alloys.  The big plus with these arrangements is that the machine does not get tired after 8 hours.  The operator still would have to be qulified but qualified as a machine operator rather than a weldor qualifying on a manual process.
Reply:Manokai a  $17,000 tip tig wire feeder would be more usefull to me than a engine driven welder.  As all of our projects that we do we have line power.  I started looking at tip tig back in 2009 when it was brought to the U.S the price has not changed in that time still $17,250 with out a welder power supply, $28,000 with a Miller maxstar 350 welder.  We checked the price in Edmonton Canada $36,000 .I still haven't figured out where the 17,000 dollars is but some one has to pay for all the r & d that was put into that product.  When you are trying to weld a bracket on overhead while holding it with one hand and the gun in the other handsomething that is not dropping sparks all over you would be nice.In the new project that is going on this year cosmetics is very important to the owner, we are looking for the best welding wire and if a tip tig will give us the best process then he has said maybe the dairy should buy one.  We have been looking all over the Midwest ,Texas, Coloarado, and then Mexico where the actual rotary deck is manufactoried.  A lot of the stick welds looked like crap so the decision was made to only mig or tig weld  and right now the wire will be ESAB gas shielded flux-core stainless wire.  So flame away. Also there was a note on my log in that said i have not posted for a while.
Reply:Why not explore the cold wire feeder. I'd think that it might at least help and would be much easier cheaper to try. I bet Steve has more than enough part scattered around to build one. http://weldingweb.com/vbb/showthread.php?93351-TIG-Cold-Wire-Feeder-MILLER-DYNASTY-200-DX-aluminium-welding-DIY&highlight=wire+feed+tigLast edited by irish fixit; 02-04-2014 at 09:32 AM.Millermatic 252XMT 304'sDynasty 280DXHypertherm PowerMax 1250Miller Trailblazer 302 EFIOptima PulserXR feeder and XR Edge gun and more athttp://members.dslextreme.com/users/waynecook/index.htm

Reply:@ Milkerman - Aloha!  If TipTIG's the right tool and your client will fund her, then rip it. If, your requirements would be met with FCAW-G (ESAB's SS electrode), roll that way.  "New & Exciting" is not always the best course of action.  Would like to run a $ ROI calc of the TipTIG -vs- FCAW-G, based on similar net quality of welds (fusion, appearance).  O&M phase is key.Right tool, right job, right operator -> wins.  Good luck!"Discovery is to see what everybody else has seen, and to think what nobody else has thought" - Albert Szent-Gyorgyi
