Just showing some work using aluminum stick welding. The intake stud had broken off and then an extractor bit broke inside the drilled stud. -Mark Attached Imageshttp://www.facebook.com/Knappmobilewelding

Reply:Cool dude!
Reply:Next time post here first. I could have gotten them both out for you without having to do all that work.
Reply:All I wanna know is why are you using a die handle for a tap wrench?...zap!I am not completely insane..Some parts are missing Professional Driver on a closed course....Do not attempt.Just because I'm a  dumbass don't mean that you can be too.So DON'T try any of this **** l do at home.
Reply:1) No pre-heat2) I'm using the die handle because that's what its made for. If you look close, you will see the insert made to accept the tap.http://www.facebook.com/Knappmobilewelding
Reply:I have an insert for a die handle that is for turning taps. It came with a bunch of tools I got from an old aircraft mechanic. No idea how common they are or where it came from, there are no names or markings on it. Mr. HE

Reply:you are either very lucky or very good. probably a little of both. i use aluminum stick when i have a choice between a fix or the scrap pile. i never noticed the insert that accepts the tap. at first glance i would think being off center would make it hard to keep the tap straight? you can bet your a$$ i'm going to check out my die handle first thing monday am. you gotta love this forum for learning things. nice job.Last edited by docwelder; 02-23-2014 at 10:57 AM.i.u.o.e. # 15queens, ny and sunny fla

Reply:I picked up the tap/die set at a garage sale for 5$ when I first moved out of my folks house and lived in an apartment. Its an American Vermont brand. Not sure how old it is.Thanks for the compliments. Yes, aluminum stick is very tricky. Even with practice, its hard to control at times.http://www.facebook.com/Knappmobilewelding

Reply:knappweld, nice repair.  Walkerweld, thanks for the tip on making a broken tap extractor, been down that road before.   Bob
Reply:Walkerweld. I missed this the 1st time thru. I tagged the tap extractor idea for future use..No government ever voluntarily reduces itself in size.
