I've been kicking around the idea of getting a spool gun for my esab migmaster 250. I have very little experience welding aluminum but have some that I need to do and have heard that a spool gun would be the best way for me to weld it. I'm wondering if anyone has any info on the ones that weldmart is selling the aec-200, they seem to be about the same money as the esab MT 250SG, so I'm wondering which one is the better gun. One thing I was wondering about is the cable comes out the back of the gun not the bottom which seems like it could be combersome to use especially in tight areas. Also wondering about the durability of it as well. Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks Anthonyhttp://weldmart.com/AEC-200%20ST-23%...TRO%20PAGE.htmTo many hobbies not enough Cash!!1951 Chevy 1 Ton 9' Pickup resto-mod V8 4x4 1987 Pontiac Fiero GT 3800 V6 ConversionESAB MIgmaster 250www.anthonysautoservice.com
Reply:We have a spool gun at work on our miller 252 and tight spots are pretty difficult because you have the complete package in your hand. Its not like a mig gun where you can zap and your done it is pretty cumbersome to move around and get in little areas. It does do a pretty nice bead on alum though not as good as tig but it is alot easier to do then tig also. I picked up and was laying pretty good looking beads in about an hour.Vantage 300 kubota ,miller 304 xmt ,lincoln ln 25 pro , ranger 305 G, plenty of other tools of the trade to make the sparks fly.
Reply:I agree with GMMANDIN, the spool gun is not very good with tight spaces. You can't beat it speed wise if you don't any space constrictions, however, I need to tig areas that are tight. By the way, I use a spool gun on my Millermatic 250x.*************************************Mike AccardiHenderson, [email protected] 250XLincoln Weldpack HDMiller Syncrowave 180 SD*************************************
Reply:Thanks guys that is kind of what I was thinking. Has anyone used on of these guns?http://weldmart.com/AEC-200%20ST-23%...TRO%20PAGE.htmI'm just not sure if i want to get that one or go with an Esab brand gun, they run within $50 of each other with the Esab one being a little cheaper. I think that the weldmart one is rated for a little more continuous amp but I don't ever weld for hours on and so for me that is not a real issue either way. Thanks again,AnthonyTo many hobbies not enough Cash!!1951 Chevy 1 Ton 9' Pickup resto-mod V8 4x4 1987 Pontiac Fiero GT 3800 V6 ConversionESAB MIgmaster 250www.anthonysautoservice.com
Reply:that profax aec200 was designed in the 40's or 50's. it is a tried and true design. they can come setup to weld off of most any powersource (i have one on my tig machine) and are near bullet proof. a buddy of mine has had his for 30 years and still loves it. in the old days it was called a MIGet, or any of a dozen other names that the same gun was sold under.Dynasty 200DXPassport plus w/ spoolmate 100victor 315c oxy/(act and prop)Miller digital elitemilwaukee power tools |
