hi all,  thinking about my x-mas present.  santa I want a dry cut saw !   What kind???  looks like Dewalt and Milwaukee are the same price. I like both maybe milwaukee a little more. what about makita , rage or others?this rage one looks pretty kick A$$what do you guys got, or have used??thanks dayehttp://www.toolfetch.com/metal-cut-saws-rage3.shtml
Reply:A friend of mine who does iron railings has a Dewalt saw and he swears by it. I would personally go with the Dewalt because parts availability on their website has never been a problem. I try to only buy their stuff because I know I can fix it when I eventually break it.(Not that their stuff is bad, I eventually break everything)kidtigger24  They think I’m crazy, but I know better. It is not I who am crazy. It is I who am MAD!
Reply:I have a MasterHand 14" DryCut from tractor Supply.  It looks very similar to all the curretn crop of dry cut saws on the market.  I got it for $50 when TSC was closing them out!!!!  Let me tell you, it is a monster!  I take it easy on the pressure and it just cuts right through everything....and does it quickly and cleanly. You will love whatever dry cut saw you buy!
Reply:See this thread.http://weldingweb.com/vbb/showthread.php?t=47325It's a few days old and discusses two dry saw brandsI have the dewalt. I find it doesn't cut very well or reproducibly. the riged is just that: rigid. Beefy cast base as opposed to stamped. My bro has the rigid and both he and I think it is much better than a dewalt
Reply:I have an evolution Rage 2 and its a great saw.  I have had it for 6 months now and it has worked flawlessly.  The motor is very strong and it cuts nearly identical every time (30 min duty cycle, so it will cut all day long no problem).  If I could have found one I would have gotten the Steel Saw 2 but could not find anyone around here that had them.  The base is cast and the saw weight a lot, but its super strudy and I love it.  Would guess it weighs around 50lbs.
Reply:I have the Milwaukee, and really like it.  The table is 3.5" off the ground, which means you can use 4x4's to block up your work and keep it level.  The vise is strong and fast to use.  I use this saw nearly every day, and have had it for 4 years now.  The only thing I've replaced is the threaded side of the vise assembly - I finally wore the threads out.  Power is a non-issue; there's always plenty.  Cuts are always spot-on, the vise holds it's angle, and it's light enough I don't mind carrying it up and down out of the truck's bed-mounted job box.

Reply:I have 3 dry cut saws, all Evolutions.  One is a 10" compound slide miter saw, the Rage 3.  The other 2 are 7-1/4" hand circular saws, one is a Rage 1, the other is a Steel 1.  I am happy with all of them and would have no problem at all choosing the Rage 2 or Steel 2 chop saw in 14" size.MM350P/Python/Q300MM175/Q300DialarcHFHTP MIG200PowCon300SMHypertherm380ThermalArc185Purox oaF350CrewCab4x4LoadNGo utilitybedBobcat250XMT304/Optima/SpoolmaticSuitcase12RC/Q300Suitcase8RC/Q400Passport/Q300Smith op
Reply:Hey tigmusky,When examining dry cut saws, the construction of the vise & strength capability would be primary concern. The thickness of the jaws will determine the preciseness of the cuts. I have a now discontinued, Porter-Cable 1410 14" Dry Cut Saw that has cut tremendous amounts of tubing, solid steel bar(4"dia rd.), flat stock,& pipe(4"dia.) without an issue. I use 14"/C7/72T tungsten tipped Freud Diablo Steel Demon blades religiously & generally get 1200-1600cuts before sharpening is needed. Unfortunately, this saw is no longer available, although I know a few members here on this forum got them from the same seller I got mine for less than $275 shipped. I used (2) at the company I retired from for 12 years & they were run relentlessly daily & never a hiccup. A shame they are no longer available. Here's some pics of mine & the superb vise it has & some cuts on 4" X .187thick X 5/16"wide I "sliced" with mine. Very precise & clean as the jaws hold the pipe very firm. Most of the dry cut saws I see now have flimsy vises on them, although a heavier piece of steel for a new jaw could be fabricated I'm sure. My saw weighs 68lbs & built like a tank. Anyway, just do a bit of homework to examine & evaluate a saws' vise to determine if it will have the strength for what you intend.Denny Attached ImagesComplete Welding/Machine/Fab. Reply:I have the DeWalt and I like the quality of the cut.  The only thing I don't like is the base and clamp.  It works, but it could be better.  I plan on making a new base and clamp out of 1/2" plate at some point.  The biggest problem is when cutting a 45 degree, the blade wants to pull the piece towards it.  I think with a better clamping system it would be perfect.  The blade cuts very nicely and doesn't need much touch up.
Reply:thank you yorkiepap that's what I was looking for.    thanks for pics, nice standdaye

Reply:tigmusky, I have a milwaukee 14" drycut & its a great saw, but since i got my rage 3 i really don"t use the milwaukee much. nothing like being able to cut any material with 1 saw, metal, wood, plastic etc. I have made a bench & mounted the rage to it,( check my threads if interested) thing of it is I love the ability to swing the actual saw not the vise. just my 2 cents , hope it helps.                                                                                    Bob
