This is a sweet little machine that until 6 years ago it was idle on a ranch in central Idaho, the 2 cylinder wisconsin runs like a charm after a carb kit a fuel pump kit and refurbishing of a varnished gas tank and fuel system, I tore the weld generator apparatus apart and had it tested at a local motor shop and dipped and baked the stator and rotor, the commutator is like new hardly a scratch ! the brushes look like the originals. after assembling I can not get it to strike an arc, I tried the flashing/polarizing method described by BKahler with no luck. I may either be cheap or just stubborn but I really want to melt some metal with this cutey.
Reply:Ray, actually it was BobC that provided the information on flashing the welder.  Fortunately I didn't have to do that.  As soon as I got it to run after the carb rebuild, fuel tank clean out and replacing the fuel pump it ran just fine.  I have found that it needs a little time to warm up but once it does it welds very smoothly and constantly.  If you need copies of the manuals that I found send me your email and I'll send them your way.Good luck with the welder!BradPS, If you can't get yours running you can always buy mine!
Reply:Thanks Brad , actually thanks to both you and BobC ! It was your communication that hooked me up with this great web site. I have the original Lincoln and Wisconsin manuals and other Lincoln nostalgic documents from the original owner of the welder (1960 vintage) which I would have been happy to share with you had I known of your need a year ago ! I am going to conquer this yet but out of curiousity how much are you asking for your welder ? I will share my success story when and if it happens.   Thanks again RayM
Reply:Hello Ray,If you're still having problems, you might want to speak to one of Lincoln's engine welder troubleshooters.  You can find a phone number on Lincoln's web site.www.lincolnelectric.com  They can sometimes email or fax additional information.  They can also often make suggestions on what you should check.Remember to have the code number for the machine, they'll need that, along with a good description of the problem.  Voltage readings from the welding terminals and brush connections may also be helpful.  If there is any voltage present, note the polarity as well.If they can't seem to help you, try calling back after the holidays.  I would think that some of the most experienced guys may be taking time off for vacations this time of year.Good luck,Bob
Reply:Thanks Bob, I believe that the problem is the series coil in the stabilizer, I have found breakage and overheating indications in the winding which is a coil wound around the iron in a wrap of 25 turns in a 3.75" square pattern the coil wrap material is appears to be aluminum maybe 1100 type which has a shape of .093" x 1/2" flat bar cross section, I have been told the part is obsolete from Lincoln, I hope somone has one collecting dust somewhere! My next approach is to either repair the breaks or attempt winding a new one. I refuse to let this old girl die.  Thanks for your help ! AGAIN !    RayM
