Came up with this random idea, just throwing it out there to see if it has already been thought of, or if it's even possible. My dry cut saw throws chips everywhere when cutting (still beats sparks and dust).  Probably 90% of them fly out the back of the saw and some on an angle out the back of the saw.  I was trying to figure out a way to make some sort of shroud, out of sheet metal maybe 14ga-ish and magnetize it.  Sort of like a mag drill base.   It would theoretically catch most of the chips and then with it being an electromagnet, have the ability to be switched off and just wiped clean.  Any thoughts? Feasible? Or have I gone off the deep end?

Reply:Quite a few people just build a deflector which directs the chips into a pile.  This can be integrated into a stand.
Reply:Why would it have to be an electro-magnet? You could just stick a powerful magnet to the back side, and pull it off when you want to dump the chips.Just build a deflector sheild, like kazlx said and stick your magnet to it. When you get enough chips gathered up, weld them together into some kind of art project.
Reply:I built a stand for a welding blanket that keeps the shavings more localized so it's not such a pain to clean up. Reply:It didn't even cross my mind to just stick a regular magnet to it lol I might give that a shot.  The chips are just such a pain in the ***. Especially in a home garage setup. I know safety glasses and a face shield would suffice, I wear safety glasses anyway, just trying to contain the chips as much as possible
