Question about rough texture.

Might be a dumb question, but how do you achieve the rough texture on metal that you sometimes see, especially on gym equipment? I was asked to build some small stuff for a local gym I workout at and was wondering if there is any way to achieve this.
Reply:Most of that equipment is powdercoated.  If the surface is rough its probably a hammertone powdercoat.
