i'm looking into building a cnc plasma table, i also want to be able to put a router motor on it...well, i went over to a friends house and he give me a pile of the aluminum 80/20 extrusion..  theres enough that i could make a 5x10 table with a double gantry but i dont want that big actually.. i'm thinking more like 4x4 or 5x5.. i've pretty much been looking at plans until my eyes bleed..  i'm looking for a source for the corner brackets, end brackets, gussets and such for the gantry. What do you think would be the best slide setup to use? i was thinking a roller bearing slide, or maybe a hardened v slide. i also need a source for the slides.... basically i guess i need a kit without the controller, motors and the extrusion. i have 3 servos and a burny3 cnc controller, i might not use the controller and get one of the candcnc controllers..not sure about the drive set up either i'm thinking rack or acme thread.. anyone have any input? Reply:Is there a reason you don't want to use parts from the 80/20 catalog? For the drive, ball scews seem to be the best.Miller a/c-d/c Thunderbolt XLMillermatic 180 Purox O/ASmith Littletorch O/AHobart Champion Elite
Reply:Go and look at Joes 4x4, also definitely I would go with rack and pinion less loss power due to friction.http://www.cnczone.com/forums/joes_cnc_model_2006/http://www.youtube.com/results?searc...nd+pinion&aq=f80/20 has a surplus store on ebay where they sell for a reasonable discount.http://stores.ebay.com/8020-Inc-Garage-Sale
Reply:Bishop Wisecarver makes the V rollers and track. Good stuff and self cleaning.
Reply:I went R&P for the drive... easy to gear up or down to get the accuracy vs speed right for your plasma.... for a router or mill I'd consider leadscrew, but plasma is almost no load and you want it fast for thinner stuff...  oh, a screw for the Zaxis should be fine.
