On a tig welder how much stick outI can you get away with using a gas lenses?
Reply:On The jumbo lens #12 cup, I've run about 1.5" or more depending. But that's for "special" welds. On average I run about 1/2" out. Just so that I can see what is going on.
Reply:You can do more than that, I have heard up to 4 inches. The best way to find out is to extend the tungsten little at a time till it stops getting coverage.Miller Maxstar 200 SDPiperliner #10 Gold
Reply:Most stickout I have used was about 1.25" with a #8 cup gas lens at 45 CFH.Airco Ac/Dc 300 HeliwelderMillerMatic 200 (stolen)Miller Maxstar 150STLMiller AEAD200LE (welding and generating power) Hobart MIG

Reply:4" isn't a problem with a jumbo cup, it all depends on what your welding. If your welding a merge collector for a turbo manifold or a rollcage sometimes a lot of stick is needed for tough spots
Reply:Depends on what you're welding. You could have a mile of stickout if you were welding the bottom of a bottomless pit with enough preflow...Ive done like 2.5" before when welding inside an impossible to get to merge. The argon was so contained in there it worked fine.On normal open air stuff you're realistically like 1.5x the cups i.d. max in still air.My question is why are you asking? you usually want as little stickout as realistically possible.Welding/Fab Pics: www.UtahWeld.com |
