For cutting a bunch of stainless steel Uni-Strut which saw would be quicker and leave an edge that requires minimal to no edge finishing? I've seen how good cold saws cut tubing and other shapes but how would something like the Dewalt cold cut style saw work? We have a big bandsaw for other stuff but would like a small saw for making clean cuts on 3/4"-2" cs & sst pipe, angle and flat bar.Cold saw I had in mind-http://metal.baileighindustrial.com/...oldsaw-cs-225mDewalt cold cut saw-http://www.northerntool.com/shop/too...ct_48565_48565TOO MANY TOOLS & NO MORE SPACE
Reply:The Baileigh appears more professional and will do precision work. I would contact Baileigh and ask about the stainless steel cutting and the blade life in doing so. The coolant they sell would be my next question. How long before it breaks down on stainless and blade cost. The video looked good. The Dewalt is a larger capacity basic type saw which leads me back to the Baileigh.    What size and gauge is the unistrut ? Baileigh is a couple of hours away from me. I see you are a little further then that.
Reply:get the baleigh. I wish i could get rid of my evolution and buy the baleigh
Reply:Personally, l love my Evolution 14" cold cut saw.  It will cut much faster than in those videos. Here is a quick cut video I did a while back on 1/4" bar Sent from my SCH-I545 using TapatalkTiger Sales:  AHP Distributor    www.tigersalesco.comAHP200x; AHP 160ST; MM350P,  Spoolmatic 30A; Everlast PowerTig 185; Thermal Dynamics 60i plasma.  For Sale:  Cobra Mig 250 w/ Push-pull gun.  Lincoln Wirematic 250
Reply:BD1: I will contact Baileigh and ask them about the blade/coolant life. That is a good point about the coolant breaking down. As far as the gauge of the Uni-Strut I am not sure but it is the tall 1-5/8? stuff. Thats probably a good thing that Baileigh is so far away from me, It seems like every time I browse around their website something else looks like it would be useful SOCOJ2: What issues have you had with your saw?SOUTTHPAW: That thing did cut really quick and I always imagined those saws would be alot louder. Do the Evolution saws take blades that are available at most industrial supply houses or do they have to be ordered from the mfg?TOO MANY TOOLS & NO MORE SPACE
Reply:Chris,I do a lot of furniture so its mostly mitering on 45s or <45 degree angles. and the Evolution FENCE SUCKS AT holding specific angles.I want something i can just clam the crap out of it and adjust the blade instead. IE the baleigh. The saw cuts good though.
Reply:I think about taking a road trip to Baileigh. The only issue is that it will end up costing me a couple of thousand. OK, at least a grand for sure. They have some really nice toys. I have the Rage 2 saw , got it cheap. I had to loosen mounting bolts and shim it to cut square. Mine has the wheel handle screw vise. It is NOT A QUICK acting. I would not buy another. I really like the Baileigh, you had to start something. I just wonder about the coolant part. I don't think you could dry cut with it.
Reply:If this would be for field work use, I would consider a porta band saw.

Reply:Flood coolant sucks if you plan on welding what you cut. It will flow wherever it can along the bar. Mist works real good and if adjusted right all will be consumed in the cut. Mist coolers are not cheap but they do work well.
Reply:The problem is that uni-strut is a U shaped piece, it is hard to hold with out chattering. THAT breaks cold saw blades.Tim Beeker.
Reply:Also those saws are not in the same class. One is a true cold saw with flood coolant and good vice, the other is a dry saw with no coolant and mediocre clamp at best, more like an abrasive cutoff saw.Tim Beeker.
Reply:Just realized the small Baileigh vise will not open up to cut double back Unistrut. The cold cut saws will hold it but for cold saws I'll have to look at something larger. Thanks for all of your input.TOO MANY TOOLS & NO MORE SPACE
Reply:@ Chris T - in the same camp as SouthPaw.  Using a 14" Rage 2 Evolution saw w/ a Yellow blade for SS.  A portable and ok cutting solution for steel.  Score the new Unit for $260 delivered in '13.  The suck factor, however, is the Yellow blade runs $145.  Plus, as others have mentioned, the cut line needs shimming/attention IOT true.  Not insurmountable.  Although the Orange blade that arrived with the Rage 2 blade will sever wood, mild steel, and stainless steel; relegating the Yellow blade for 304/316L is the way to go.  SS will tear up the Orange blade in no time.Looking back.....needed a quick-solution to cut {mild} steel, so the Evolution arrived.  Plus, was space limited in the shop.  My plan is to maintain her and run her until the Orange and Yellow blades require replacing.  Then, off to CL she goes for $ recap and upgrade. If you have the budget and the room, would seriously consider scoring a Baleigh.  Buy once, cry once.Last edited by ManoKai; 03-04-2014 at 09:32 AM."Discovery is to see what everybody else has seen, and to think what nobody else has thought" - Albert Szent-Gyorgyi

Reply:Tapatalk is not letting me edit typos:  Which saw do you have?  Mine has  cast base and fence and is excellent at holding whatever angle I set it at.   To answer the OP,  it takes standard 1" hole, 14" steel cutting blades that you can get at any good tool supplier.  Sent from my SCH-I545 using Tapatalk[/QUOTE]Sent from my SCH-I545 using TapatalkTiger Sales:  AHP Distributor    www.tigersalesco.comAHP200x; AHP 160ST; MM350P,  Spoolmatic 30A; Everlast PowerTig 185; Thermal Dynamics 60i plasma.  For Sale:  Cobra Mig 250 w/ Push-pull gun.  Lincoln Wirematic 250
