We're talking late eighties, I figured out that if I took a piece of fourteen gauge 1 7/8" fourteen gauge pipe (1 1/2" schedule 10 sprinkler pipe) down to my local muffler shop we could make some really kewel wood racks. It's like this, if you bend the pipe just right you have one half of pipe rick (rick being half of cord) rack. If you bend them all the same then you can put any two together to make one rack. I see all of the talk about gussets etc and have to smile. I didn't make many of these because most people don't want to pay for a real wood rack when they can get a wannabe wood rack from the box store. But the friends of mine who bought them still have them and they're still up and working. Granted here in north Texas we don't have the rust demons northerners dance with but they've held up fine thank you.I would call the muffler shop and see if they were dead customer wise. If they were I would grab ten pieces of the tubing cut and marked for bends and go to their shop. We would bend them up and then I would go back and weld them up. I would have to tweak them of course, just a little. If you look at the photo you can see the lift picking up a half of a cord, oak weighs about two and a half ton per cord so that is about 2,500 lbs.I tried to get the firewood sales guys to sell them for me but they wouldn't have anything to do with it. Honest measurements aren't part of their forte I guess. That and one of them pointed out that properly stacked for a client meant a rabbit could run through without breaking stride.I made up flyers that called these the Rick Racks and of course the full cord model was called the Cord Keeper.
