i know that the 180 supports spoolguns and has that cool diamond core whatever but for a hobbiest user, am i really going to notice the difference?  am i aware that the internal drive mechanism is also improved.  i have a sp135 and i've seen the 180s up close and they are a nicer machine.  but is it so much nicer that i need to buy a 180 over a 175?  i hate to say it, but i haven't had a chance to melt any metal in quite some time   it's nice having one around (a welder) with my off-road hobby but i know i don't need the nicest machine.the reason i'm asking ought to be obvious: with the 180s on the market, the 175s are getting a lot cheaper.thanks.andy
Reply:What im seeing is that the 180 can handle a spool gun (albeit the one designed for the welder) and the extra 5 amps.  Thats about all I see.Various GrindersVictor Journeyman torch200cf Acet. 250cf oxygenLincoln 175 plus/alpha2 gunLincoln v205t tigLincoln 350mpEsab 650 plasmaWhen you can get up in the morning, Its a good day.Live each day like its your last.
Reply:I use to own an SP 175 +, now I have the 180C. Noticeable differances I see are, the 180 wets the puddle out better,  produces a lower spatter level, and there is a wider window  of operation on the wire speed dial for any voltage setting. I definitely prefer the 180C over the SP 175+. The 175+ is still a good unit though. For off-road  vehicle  welding  though, I feel the HH 187 might be a better choice. Biggest reason being it offers more top end power then the Lincoln units.
