I have lots of aluminum, 0.90 and 0.125, sheet metal work. Currently I'm tigging but need to switch to mig for cost effectiveness. I have a MM 252. Any advice as to which spool gun would perform the best. Reply:You can't beat a 30A and it's plug and play on your 252.My name's not Jim....
Reply:15A or 30A would both work well. The .090 ( I assume you ment this since .9 (between 15/16" and 7/8") is not what I'd call "sheetmetal") will be a fun treat to work with if you haven't done this before..No government ever voluntarily reduces itself in size. Reply:Hey wagin,Get the spoolgun & don't let cost affect your decision. You will find a marked improvement with production &, believe me, that SG will pay itself off in no time flat. If the 30A is already setup for the 252, get it & start runnin'.........DennyComplete Welding/Machine/Fab. Reply:Nobody is recommending a push-pull gun instead of a spoolgun? Those little 1 lb spools of aluminum are kind of pricey on a $/lb basis. Hmmm, a quick check at weldingdepot shows the little 4" 1 lb aluminum spools at about $5-$6 depending on the wire diameter and the alloy and the big-boy 12" 20 lb spools at about $4.xx/lb again depending on wire diameter and alloy. Those 5 lb 8 inch spools are running around $8-$10/lb though! Ouch!Go big or go home, eh?Miller XR push-pull, listed as compatibile with the MM252.A Miller article about welding aluminum with the XR push-pull. They happen to mention welding 0.090 aluminum as well. http://www.millerwelds.com/resources...Oshkosh-Truck/ The best laid schemes ... Gang oft agley ...
Reply:Wagin,The 30A is "the only" way to go as far as a "spoolgun" on the MM252.Welding .090 aluminum, though, is not it's fortay. Gonna be tough without pulse. If you've got "a lot" of this type work, you may want to explore moving up to the MM 350P.Syncro 250 DX Dynasty 200 DXMM 251 w/30A SG XMT 304 w/714 Feeder & Optima PulserHH187Dialarc 250 AC/DCHypertherm PM 1250Smith, Harris, Victor O/ASmith and Thermco Gas MixersAccess to a full fab shop with CNC Plasma, Water Jet, etc.
Reply:from what ive read the 30a can be used as push pull aswell it all depends what you want the nice thing about the spoolgun is i can grab one or the other without changing reels etc the lil rolls are more compared to a big spool guess it all depends what kinda setup you wanna run350P 30A spool gun cut master 51 syncro 250 other stuff " take a dog off the street and make him prosper and he will not bite you sad the same cannot be said for man" i didnt use punctuation just to piss you off |
