Alloweld Lens

Hey guys anyone here try the Alloweld lens sold by Phillips safety ?   I have two of their gold lenses on the way and was curious about the alloweld.  It is offered up to shade 14 I think..  I tried a search and found nothing.Journeyman / Red Seal Welder (What a useless test)Miller CST 280Miller XMT 350Miller 12vs XtremeEvolution Evo 28 mag drillEvolution 380 Dry Cut saw
Reply:Talked to Bill at philips today. He basically invented it. They repurposed some glass for that project and it took off. Initial price was 125. They could not get any more of that glass so had to find a new bulk supplier. Their cost for new glass is $85 for the raw material, which they have to polish and laminate to a filter. So the 2x4.25 lens is now 250. Big one is 500. Good news is their magenta filter with a gold athermal gives nearly the same result. So buy a magenta drop in and a gold athermal and you can change the filter darkness by just buying another gold if you need to. The drop in lenses are acrylic so need to be used behind a regular filter lens. It darkens the other lens by half a shade. Hope this helps.

Reply:Never heard of it....zap!I am not completely insane..Some parts are missing Professional Driver on a closed course....Do not attempt.Just because I'm a  dumbass don't mean that you can be too.So DON'T try any of this **** l do at home.
Reply:A friend of mine at work ordered on that came in yesterday. He let me weld with it for a little while. He purchased a shade 11, and that is what I normally use in a Gold Phillips Safety lens. For starters, this lens is incredibly thick. Literally it is like two lenses stuck together. The dimensions are also a little small. The puddle was amazing to look at, but the shade 11 is much darker than its Gold counterpart. The clarity is there for sure, but you cannot really see outside of the weld area too much. It made it a little harder than I like to follow my lines.I plan on ordering on soon, but I will probably get at least as low as a shade 10. I have nothing but respect for Phillips Safety, and I have been using their glass for quite some time now.....and will continue to do so.
