I bought this from a friend who ran it out of oil.Looks like finding a complete Tecumseh engine is not gonna happen locally. It's a OH160 engine that apparently went out of production 20 years ago. Serial number tell me welder was built in 1981.The welder works, or did until the rod & crank gave up. Seems like it would be worth fixing but can't find an engine.  Is it worth fixing, sell it for parts, or is it junk? Thanks, Joe H Attached ImagesLast edited by joe--h; 07-18-2010 at 01:54 PM.Reason: Spelled BLUE wrong in title, duh!
Reply:There's a couple of guys here that rebuild those old blue ones. Maybe they can help find another engine or at least a rod and crank if that's all it needs. More likely it'll need a piston and maybe boring too.                                         MikeOl' Stonebreaker  "Experience is the name everyone gives to their mistakes"Hobart G-213 portableMiller 175 migMiller thunderbolt ac/dc stick Victor O/A setupMakita chop saw
Reply:Welcome to the forum joe--h.   Where you located?FYI, parts are still available for those 20+yo Tecumsehs.  Is one to assume you still have all the parts for the engine including the crank?I have yet to not be able to save the crank on these small engines (B&S, Kohler, Onan, Tecumseh) that has thrown a rod from running w/o oil and left a host of aluminum transfer material behind on the crankshaft in the process.A new rod, gaskets/seals and anything else required to get it back together and you're off and running . . .   I mean welding.MM200 w/Spoolmatic 1Syncrowave 180SDBobcat 225G Plus - LP/NGMUTT Suitcase WirefeederWC-1S/Spoolmatic 1HF-251D-1PakMaster 100XL '68 Red Face Code #6633 projectStar Jet 21-110Save Second Base!
Reply:Duane, too late to salvage that engine. I looked for a long time and gave up. Sold the usable engine pieces on ebay.It needed the crank, rod & piston and engine-to-fan adapter/mounting plate. I still have the crank & block but the crank looks pretty chewed.Figured machine work to the crank would have been as much as a crank, but maybe not.I'm up in the mountains East of Alamogordo New Mexico. Not much around here in the way of parts for this. Either it needs a complete engine with the adapter plate or it's junk. The good news is I didn't pay much for it.Joe H
Reply:That machine is worth repowering. Either try to find a shaft that will fit and simply build a mount or have an adapter plate machined and build a mount. A Honda would be a nice addition to that unit. A GX 390 13hp may do it. May need a step up in Hp, though. Wouldn't hurt to put a larger one at all, may even be better in the long run. A Kohler  CH14 or CH15 would be a good choices as well. Most of the engines and parts can be easily obtained on the interwebs. Small Engine Warehouse dot com is a good place to start. They will have used takeoff at times as will several on Epay. The rest you can have made or make locally.QamuIs Heg qaq law' lorvIs yInqaq puS
Reply:Duane, I still have the crankshaft. If you think it's usable it's yours for the postage.I have no use for it, need an entire power unit of some sort or junk the rest.So far it's looking like repowering it would cast way more than I want to spend on this project. Joe H
