Homemade Welder for Sale

Not mine, but found this while Googling, click photo for link:The electrode cables looks like lamp wire and this guy is claiming it can weld 1/2"...oh boy...Anyway, the search continues.  A guy had a posted a MM140 for sales on here, but he never responded...
Reply:Heres my home made welder. Basically the same thing just mine is alot cleaner. Theres now ay it can weld 1/2 inch the only thing I use mine for is bed frames or maybe too tack up something up to 1/8 then go back over it with something else.http://aaawelder.com/results.html     The Matt Heinlein WelderIt sounds pretty lame but its actually a fun project. These things kick the crap out of the Campbell Hausfeld 70 amp and I think could hold its own against a Chicago 80 amp inverter.

Reply:No kidding. I mean as far as 115volt stick welders go. Ever look into a Lincoln tombstone welder? Thats all they are is one big transformer. You can imagine what the quality of the windings are used in a run of the mill cheapo 115volt stick welder. I am not saying this guys welder isnt a POS. I built mine because I got a Campbell Hausfeld 70 amp stick welder for free from a friend and just couldnt believe what a piece of crap it was. I started searching for ways to make it better like add a fan or something and ended up finding a couple guides on how to make my own. So I decided to try it and was in no way dissapointed.The end result all depends on how much time and or money you want to put into it and your craftsmanship. Anyway you slice it its still cheaper than a Campbell Hausfeld 70amp and way better.PS: The one he shows would run like crap because the transformers should be facing completely differant directions or the magnetic fields will interrupt eachother or even cancel eachother out. I just read his post and this thing wouldnt burn 3/32" for crap, 5/64th at the biggest, I use 1/16th with mine.Last edited by Skeluhtor; 07-19-2010 at 04:41 PM.
