I just bought used a Lincoln welanpower G8000 with a 16HP Briggs Vanguard. I got a good deal on it I think (knowing it had problems) It will start and run fine, but only in HIGH idle, as soon as you try to turn the switch to low/high idle it dies, and it will not start in that position either. The generator works but it will not weld. The oil pressure switch is bad on it (broken terminal) and I have one ordered. I bypassed it just to check out how it ran. The last owner "alegedly" replaced the PC board trying to fix the problem but it did not, however it did come with another brand new in box PC board that I am reluctant to install just yet if that is not even the problem. ANY help or sugestions would be great. the worst thing that can happen is I got a 8000 watt generator for $200.Thank you for all ideas and help
Reply:hi nhI have the same welder. how do you bypass the oil switch?
Reply:$200 running is a steal.Everything you mentioned is indicative of a bad pc board, but you should clean ALL connectors and contacts first. Get a good quality electrical contact cleaner take all the panels off, and go to town. I use CRC Industrial, but have tried Deoxit. I don't really know if one is better than the other.Lincoln SA 200Esab Caddy 160Thermal Arc 201TSMiller Dialarc HFI don't like making plans for the day because then the word "premeditated" gets thrown around the courtroom....

Reply:Here is a Napa part number for the 3 terminal switch 781159. Cost 9.30 better than Lincoln's price.
Reply:I have a lot of experience with Briggs vanguard engines. I am not saying this is your problem, but a couple of things to check if the PC board doesn't fix your problem: 1. Those carbs are notorious for gumming up from 10% ethanol gas. You will want to invest $40 in a carb rebuild kit. 2. You really do have to adjust the valve clearance annually. Those engines will be very hard to start if the valve clearance is not adequate. They tend to tighten up over time. Other than they they are generally pretty bullet proof.Miller Multimatic 255
