Anyone have a source for what amounts to the wobbly end of the threaded rod on a C Clamp? I'm making a bird feeder hanger for my mom and I welded a washer onto the end of a bolt for the clamping face. It works, but the washer isn't level, so the whole bracket tends to walk when you're clamping it to a railing. I'd love to find one of those flexible ends that I could adapt to fit on instead of whats there now. Here's a pic of the bolt in question...-Jeremy
Reply:Leveling feet from home depot or lowes (enco & mcmaster have them too). Just thread it through and weld a nut to the end so you can tighten it.Sent from my SM-G920P using TapatalkTOO MANY TOOLS & NO MORE SPACE
Reply:Besides simply cannibalizing a cheap clamp, you might also look at leveling feet. Some of the ones I'd seen have the swivel type pads on them. You can either use the nut on the foot and a wrench to adjust it, or weld a nut on the opposite end after installation in your bracket..No government ever voluntarily reduces itself in size. Reply:Thanks, guys! I was trying to google for answers, but "leveling feet" was the term I needed but couldn't think of.-Jeremy
Reply:McMaster Carr has them
Reply:Maybe consider a HF '' C '' clamp and weld the rod to it.
Reply:Beam clamp. Has a 3/8" threaded hole and a setscrew that clamps onto something up to an inch thick or so.
Reply:you can make your own swivel by grinding down the threads on he bolt. Leave two good threads and then grind out the next few threads, longer than the nut height. Then you weld a short piece of tube, or a stack of washers, or an over sized nut, to the top of the good nut and cap it off. What you are going for is the bolt threads through the nut and hits the end of your swivel before the next good thread of the bolt gets to the nut. It will swivel when tightening. It may come off when loosening but that isn't a big deal. |
