i have a lincoln 110 sp-135t,  havent fired it up for awhile and i started on a new project.  went out to work on it and im having problems with the higher intensity settings.  she welds great on A and B settings but, when i go to weld thicker metal on C and D settings its like its fizzling,  and the welds dont have enough to burn into the metal but on A and B settings its a perfect bead. i think its something internally screwed up.  any help?
Reply:i asked on yahoo answers and got a response from a guy who said he had the same thing happen to him,  and it was his transformer.   anyone have a price on somthing like that?
Reply:It would help if you provided some more details about your welding setup.-flux-core or mig?-filler wire material?-gas type if mig?-gas flow if mig?-voltage range for taps?-wire speed?-thickness and type of metal you are welding?-type of weld (butt, angle, lapped?) and weld prep (beveled?)-pre-weld preparations (grinding, brushing, method of cleanup after prep?)-coating on base metal (galvanized?)TeddCoHTP Microcut 400 & Invertig 160DC  Smith Dual Guard MD-510 OA Rig  Lincoln SP135+  Hobart Stickmate LX 235/160
Reply:I'll vote no on the transformer. If it worked when you parked it, it should work when you fire it back up with a few exceptions. If you're running flux core and left it unused for an extended period through a couple of weather cycles, as in humid, could be you've got feed problems.Pull the wire out of the liner. Blow all the black stuff out of the liner. Re-adjust the spool tension and feed tension. Try it again and I'll bet you're good to go.
Reply:i run 0.23 mig wire,  with the gas setup.  i had a piece of steel angle iron about a 1/4 inch thick and i was welding it to the front frame rails of a 78 dodge power wagon.  i took a 4 1/2 wire wheel  angle grinder and cleaned them thouroughly.  took the angle set half of it on the top of the rails and butted the bottom half agianst the c part of the frame so i could weld up the seams.  i think i had it on C setting and about 7 or 8 on the wire speed.  so it started fizzling.  the first thing i though was what the heck that doesnt sound right.  im not talking where it isnt going fast enough or its not clean enough, it was litarrally fizzling as soon as the wire touched metal it would kinda fizzle, made a totally different sound then anything ive ever heard.  so  i thought maybe i need to turn it up,  still the same thing on D setting except the fizzling was worse.  so i got up went over and checked everything out,  wires good, grounded good, spool turns good,  gas on, have gas,  leads arent switched, no dirt, swithed the tip, everything checked out.  so i got down and the bumper i was going to weld the angle too i thought i would weld the seams up on it instead.  so again i tried C and D settings with the same result,  switched it to B and A settings and i could run a perfect bead with it.  ive used this welder for 3  years and its worked great for me,  ive built a lot of demo cars with it and ive never had any type of problem doing the things i was doing with it previously.  and the biggest kicker is the warranty went out about a couple months ago...
Reply:well i called lincoln and they said it doesnt sound like its the transformer because its still getting voltage.  they belelive its in the rectifier, capacitor, or the switch.  im going to take it to a local service dealer friday.
