I just scratch my head in disbelief!!!!Two "Brush Rollers" in need of repair..Short end on one..Long end on the other.Short end done..was worn .013 so weld and re-machine.Now this is what really makes me wonder...Now someone explain to me why NOBODY saw/heard anything while this is running?Journal finishes at 1.437 but where this bearing was was down to .659????So it's the usual cut off/drill/bore/insert new journal/weld/finish.This took awhile to do because I could not use the rosebud to heat the bore because the brushes caught fire REAL fast (And STUNK To Hi Heaven ) so I had to use the pinpoint torch to combat that but all went well.I had to do this job TODAY because as I was told yesterday "The whole plant is down because of these"...Whole plant down?I think they need some spares for when crap like this happens...But I don't work there so......whatever.Now they can come and get these bright and early Monday and get back to work.I get all the fun jobs.....zap!Last edited by zapster; 05-03-2014 at 11:15 AM.I am not completely insane..Some parts are missing Professional Driver on a closed course....Do not attempt.Just because I'm a dumbass don't mean that you can be too.So DON'T try any of this **** l do at home.

Reply:I used to see that type of thing done regularly when I was a welder in a potash mine. Production had to get their shift tonnage of muck to send topside. Next shift can worry about theirs when they get here. We looked at it as job security and overtime. All us in maintenance though the boys in production could totally destroy an anvil in an 8 hour shift.
Reply:Oldtimer, I always wanted to set an anvil and a pair of pliers down with a paving crew, then time them to see how long to destroy the anvil. You just cant make them care! Reply:I worked at a place where maint. was NEVER done on CNC vert. mills because it was too much down time. The could sure bitch when an operator was of tolerance though. They just could not understand why bad parts came off of a worn out machine! |
