hoping someone can educate me on which one to purchase,i need one for general cutting and mig welding in my garageim thinking for at least a 8x8 blanket but not sure what material to use or what brands are good or badthanks for helping out a newbie
Reply:Interested in the answer to this as well.
Reply:Pretty sure this link (http://adlinsulflex.com/fire-blanket...blanket-32-oz/) is to what we use in the field.  Works good for protecting when supported vertically.  Often used over plywood over grating to protect workers on lower floor.  This combination gives a reasonable amount of time to put out any molten sparks which can melt/burn their way through.  Have to realize that fire blanket on a floor is considered disposable and would be very expensive for a home set-up.  I'm not condoning any oxy-fuel burning in a wooden garage.   If you absolutely have to, then maybe consider a cutting table with a built-in water trough.
Reply:I just went to my LWS and said, "I need a welding blanket."  They had them in stock for a reasonable price.KevKevin / Machine_Punk from The Aerodrome Studio - Lincoln PowerMIG 210 MP - Meco N Midget w/custom welding station - Vintage Victor 100Current Projects: The Aerodrome Studio
Reply:I've mostly used what looks like a fiberglass cloth, comes in a roll.  You should wet it with water before use, makes it more effective and lasts longer."The reason we are here is that we are not all there"SA 200Idealarc TM 300 300MM 200MM 25130a SpoolgunPrecision Tig 375Invertec V350 ProSC-32 CS 12 Wire FeederOxweld/Purox O/AArcAirHypertherm Powermax 85LN25

Reply:i wish there was as good of an answer, as the question is.      thats pretty much the only thing i go to harbor freight for.    they used to be more canvassy like, now there fiberglassy like.     i bunch them up in layers, most used blankets on top, newer ones under.     i got a bunch of old leather jackets from a school throwing them out, also
Reply:Get the coated fiberglass from the LWS. They are usually 6x6, IIRC, and run about $50. Stay away from the loose weave ones from HF, they will leave you itchy, and don't hold up well, shocking I know, being from HF and all.

Reply:4 ' x 4 ' Masonite is  a nice size to handle and lay on floor for cutting. I throw a welding blanket or blankets on top. Mine are the Tilman, 6 ' x 6 ' size. I made a frame so I can use one as a wind brake or a screen. They work well. http://www.amazon.com/Tillman-Vermic...elding+Blanket
