hey now im thinking of getting one of those c7 badboy blades for my grinder to cut with. im so sick of using abrasive wheels. like really sick of it. they ware down so quickly, they snap and go flying. im gonna end up getting the evolution rage 4 7-1/4" cut off saw. but for little things that isnt always gonna work.the grand ol' opry aint so grand anymoremiller maxstar 150sworking on an oxy/acet set up
Reply:I'd like to help, but what is a c7 blade?  It's rare for an abrasive wheel to shatter unless it's being handled improperly, usually by being twisted or forced in the cut or by being dropped.  Have you tried different brand cutoff wheels?  Some last longer than others.  You have a ton of threads on this forum recently which I admit to not having followed, so I'm not familiar with what material you're trying to cut or what tools you have at your disposal besides a grinder.  That said, in my opinion most anything is safer / cheaper to cut with than a grinder.  I use mine a lot, but not if I have any other tool which will do the job properly.  Wish I could give you more help, but I'm not usually up on the newest thing out there.  If this c7 "blade" is truly a "blade," then it sounds like something you'd better steer clear of until you're able to handle an abrasive wheel safely.  Not trying to be mean, just expressing interest in you keeping your guts on the inside where they belong.
Reply:This question seems odd - are you asking about a c7 carbide tooth blade used for metal cutting?
Reply:I just got some in but I've not used them yet. I don't really plan on using them for steel work anyway. I was looking for a better way of taking off large amounts of aluminum that was easier to control than using my skilsaw. First impressions are this could be real dangerous. Care must be taken in use. The guard they sell in the kit is poorly made and pretty much unusable in real world situations if it would even work at all (I could remachine some of it and make it work but I still don't see how you're supposed to use it). I plan on using them in my smallest grinder for easier control. My main use will be grinding down large clumps of messed up welds that I get in to repair. Personally I think that for steel use you would really want a variable speed grinder (big bucks) to get the rpm down some so they could have a chance to last a while.   As for cutting steel I get really good life out of SAIT 6" flat 045" cutoff wheels. I've been really happy with them for a long time now. The depressed center version is ok but the flat ones seem to last a little longer. I use them in a old 6" porter cable grinder (from back when porter cable was still importing some metabo models).Millermatic 252XMT 304'sDynasty 280DXHypertherm PowerMax 1250Miller Trailblazer 302 EFIOptima PulserXR feeder and XR Edge gun and more athttp://members.dslextreme.com/users/waynecook/index.htm
Reply:Used one a few times.  Good cutting roof sheets.  Good cutting Alu.  Cut some 25mmX3mm RHS and not  bad but scary.  If that blade had have got a pinch at that speed, it would throw the grinder clean out of your hand.Treat it with the respect it deserves.  It wont give fingers a second chance.Oh, wear a face shield and glasses and metal swarf goes flying everwhere.Mine is now in the bin. Edit:  Its not in the bin.  Kept it for some reason.  Missin' a few teeth Attached ImagesLast edited by LarryO; 04-24-2011 at 05:37 PM.
Reply:I'll have to Google C7 blades. No idea what you're talking about there.for abrasive disks, I stick to Walter Zip Cuts, flat, not depressed center. Had them break very few times, but when they did, it was, my bad. Trying to put some "English" on it to get in a tight spot or it got banged and cracked and I forget to do a pre-use visual.200amp Air Liquide MIG, Hypertherm Plasma, Harris torches, Optrel helmet, Makita angle grinders, Pre-China Delta chop saw and belt sander, Miller leathers, shop made jigs etc, North- welders backpack.
Reply:I would want to use the guard that came with the grinder if at all possible. I am thinking of trying the 5" ones for aluminum, but am aware of the potential for kick-back. The grinder handle should be left on for proper two handed use. Don't ever become complacent when using carbide cutters on metal!
Reply:Here we are:http://www.kwiktoolusa.com/bad_blade_C7.aspxPretty inexpensive on Amazon. Suspicious of the zero info on their website. Nothing said regarding max blade speed per size of blade. Or if it just works at various speeds?Video:[ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LvpLkneuDbM[/ame]Last edited by bert the welder; 04-24-2011 at 05:42 PM.Reason: add video200amp Air Liquide MIG, Hypertherm Plasma, Harris torches, Optrel helmet, Makita angle grinders, Pre-China Delta chop saw and belt sander, Miller leathers, shop made jigs etc, North- welders backpack.
