After a long time searching, finally found an old licoln for sale...Serial number 521306(1965) Code 5604 f-162 flat head continental red seal motor, plus a redface too boot. Everything is original except the current handle is missing. Ran a few 7018 1/8 beads with it and wrote a check for it on the spot...no need to argue over price after that!! Not being familiar with these machine i put it in 3rd gear & 30 and it just flowed the metal down...unbelievable.I have to paint her and change oil, plugs, belt, etc but everything on the ole girls works fine..even the r-57 idler....I adjusted the ovc to 92.5 vdc @ high rpms at the govenor and at idle set the carb to 52 vdc....that sound right..? Any one familiar with these please feel free to give me advise on setting for differnet rods, mantanience tips...etc..I included some pics as well...it even has the hand crank is on it..! I did think at first that i had a bearing goin on it because when i shut it down while standing beside it, it made a strange noise..fired her up and it kept making that sound. Finally figured out that the magneto does that on shut down. Had me scared at first. any comments about these will be appreciated...

Reply:Iam not certain if redfaces are better, but the pipeliners seem to covet them and the shorthoods. It has been stated that they burn hotter and perhaps has some voodoo in it that gives the arc better characteristics. It has been stated that the Blackface ones after a certain year had (some claim 1971) changed to Aluminum in part of the windings and they do not have a round housing, but a octagon housing instead. Some people have the opinion that these were not as good, others say differently...I think that arc quality is highly subjective and hard to quantify. These fuzzy debates just adds to the mystic of these old welders. I would have no way to know how my welder compares to some other welder until i tried it. I do know that all the other welders i ran did not come close to this welder as far as arc, adjustablility, or ease of use...pure heaven to weld with, and remember this comes from a very inexperienced welder...the pro's who use these every day can chime in on any differences they preceived. At the end of the day, i guess that is what it boils down to..each persons preference and needs. I really didnt need another welder, but i wanted to see what all the fuss was about over these old mules. 500 dollars later, i own a welding legend, the cornerstone of Lincoln Electric. Also, owning one puts you in the Fraternal Brotherhood of Pipeliner's which dates back to the 30's when Lincoln started producing these beasts. Seriously though, this welder can flat out weld in my opinion, and Iam not sure if its because its redface or not. I suspect they all weld pretty darn good, and im sure for my use and level of experience, I would not be able to tell the difference between a redface or blackface, unless one was out of tune. But perhaps the old pipeliners who do specialized work could. That argument will not be settled anytime soon...
Reply:Thank you denrep...i'm proud of her.I just bought her and was showing her off to my uncle and he said, i know where there is one of them...Well he takes me up the road and in the back of a junkyard is a nice GMC 40 welding truck with a steel body on the back and whats on the back but a SAE 300 w/ a continetal 6 in it in good shape, welding leads and all..My uncle said its for sale, thinks the guy had paid 1,500 for the setup 12 years ago, and its been sitting ever since....There in one box on the back was some 7018 and 7024 rods as big around as my finger...I took 2 of them to see if this 200 will burn them...lol Anyhow, he is going to find out a price for me and let me know. All i need to do now is figure a way to explain to the wife..
Reply:holy ... you sure that is not a nuclear warhead? Congrats man!Love welding?  http://industrial-tools-equipment.com
Reply:lol, kinda looks like one doesnt it; but the more i weld with her, the prettier she gets. Its presenlty undergoin some cosmetic surgery...does any one have a napa part number  for the fan belt and lower radiator hose? Thank you.
Reply:I rebuild these things and I can tell you that finding a molded lower hose is really hard to do.  You can use a flex hose but it will need to be reinforced or have an internal spring coil to keep it from kinking in the sharp 90 degree bend.  Lincoln does not have the hoses.  there are some parts available but that is because they are still in use in currently produced machines.  I just sold the last one I restored with the all copper generator to an oil drilling company for $3,500.00 and they were happy to get it. A week later they called me to tell me how great it worked and wanted to know if I could do more of them.  See www.pvpmedia.com/wfs.htm if you want to see what you can do with one of these things  Go to www.pvpmedia.com/weld.htm if you want to see what they look like before I start on them.DaveDave B.E-MAIL:  [email protected] PAGES:  www.wfmservice.comwww.rides4rides.comwww.pvpmedia.com/53f100.htmDad always said, "If it ain't broke, don't fix it."I say, We can make it better.
Reply:Last month I contacted Lincoln and they gave me their part number for the lower hose on my 63 model. I then contacted my local dealer with that part number and had the hose in about 5 working days. I looked but can't find where I wrote the number down. The cost was around $18.welder
