I just picked up this torch from praxair:http://www.praxairdirect.com/PXItemD...egory_rn=11642125 amp flex head tig torch. I had originally purchased one from northern tool with their small 90amp tig machine the ST80i.The torch was on back order for 2 to 3 weeks so I cancelled that order and bought the prostar torch from my local welding supply place. It was about $40 more but has a flex head and gas control valve on the torch. My question is:Has anyone here used a prostar anything and was it good or bad? What ceramic insert should I get for it? I only have that tiny tig machine. I bought it for misc. work on snowmobiles, dirt bikes and the likes. I have tig welded in the past but never owned my own so they were always set up and I just used whatever was already attached. I was looking and there are a lot of options!! Need some advice.ThanksMike
Reply:The ceramic nozzle that you need depends on the work but #6-8 is usually adquate. Get a gas lens setup for it. The gas lens collet bodies are only a few dollars each, and usually work pretty good on saving argon (if you're in a draft-free area), or to use greater stickout (at the expense of NOT saving argon). A 1/16" gas lens collet body/collets is pretty much all you need-----125A that the torch is rated for shouldn't tax a 1/16" electrode all that much. 1st on WeldingWeb to have a scrolling sig!
