Reply:Yep, I had a couple w/ that name on them and they turned into two piece C-clamps just like yours did. Just not a good substitute for good ol' American iron!! You'd think with all the steel mills they bought here and shipped over they'd know how to make decent steel by now. Their military probably gets all the good stuff OR do they buy it from us??                                                     MikeOl' Stonebreaker  "Experience is the name everyone gives to their mistakes"Hobart G-213 portableMiller 175 migMiller thunderbolt ac/dc stick Victor O/A setupMakita chop saw

Reply:I expect that you are not alone in getting burned in the quest to save money. A good example was my "working my way up" to the lathe I always wanted. Even though they didn't blow up or anything my wife did the math and found that I spent enough on lesser lathes over the years while working my way up to the good one to buy two of the good ones. The problem for me and I expect many others is that the budget back when I started the quest just would not support buying the good one first. However, I do watch for that kind of thing now so that I don't buy on price alone.Tom Hintz, publisherwww.newmetalworker.comLincoln Pro Mig 180Lincoln AC 255Determination

Reply:i still use them like that, "welding dogs" are great for clamping down two plates together end for end once one is down, you just weld the dog to that one and start clamping, when done cut it off and grind the welds off and your ready to use it again.MM 251MM 135Lincoln Pro cut 55Bobcat 250Miller Thunderbolt ac/dcolder ac forneyJackson nexgen 3n13-Smith OP setups97 Dodge dieselMakita chopsawJet swivel head bandsawlincoln tig 300/30030a spoolgunpuma port. gas air comp.

Reply:I do a lot of contract work for manufacturer's in the woodworking, metalworking and racing fields, all of which are fighting the off-shore manufacturing to some extent. All of them say the same thing, if people did not rush to buy the low priced stuff, none of them would have gone to Taiwan in the first place. All of them hate the hassles of international shipping and all that goes with it. The fact remains that they can't make things in this country at a price Americans will pay.We just watched another manufacturer close up because he refused to go to the Pacific Rim for manufacturing and he could not keep a customer base in this country at the price necessary to have Americans make the products. If you watch the forums at all it is easy to see people who simply shop price. I get it all of the time at my woodworking and metalworking sites. People like a tool but want one for half of the price and the quality doesn't seem to matter nearly as much as the price. this isn't new but it sure is more common these days.Tom Hintz, publisherwww.newmetalworker.comLincoln Pro Mig 180Lincoln AC 255Determination

Reply:That is a small clamp (2") I believe.  I needed a dozen to do a small job and cost didn't warrant a $20 clamp.  They are the "tool shop" branded tools at Menards.  It actually has a lifetime warranty.   I did not over tighten it,  it let loose when pressure was put on the piece it was holding down.  And yes, it went with a bang!  I don't have any other uses for clamps that small, otherwise I would have made the investement in higher quality.ɹǝʌo ǝɯ lloɹ 'sıɥʇ pɐǝɹ uɐɔ noʎ ɟı

Reply:Take those cheap clamps and stuff em'  I have Bessey clamps, and Armstrong bridge clamps. Sure they cost big bucks but some times your life does depend on a clamp.https://www.armstrongtools.com/image...78_000-092.jpgLast edited by TozziWelding; 05-04-2011 at 03:55 PM.Disclaimer; "I am just an a$$hole welder, don't take it personally ."
