HI, I new to this site and have a question someone could help me out. I have Lincoln Ranger 8 I picked from my work they didnt want anymore, they replaced it with a Bluestar 145. the only problem I have with the welder is when I start it up it runs fine and goes to idle after 10 sec. when I strike an arc it revs like its supposed to, but after it goes back down to idle it dies. I can start it back up and do the same steps over again and the same thing happens, sometimes it backfires. Things i checked out, it has gas, replaced the fuel filter, changed the spark plugs, replaced the air filter, changed the oil, bascically a small tune up. The engine is a Onan Performer 16, any help would be great, just wanted to see if I can fix or find the problem before taking it in for a diagnose. Thanks Sal
Reply:pull the choke out slightly and let it idle back, if that keeps it running you have a carb problem, you may have to pull it out and fiddle with the choke but if you can make it idle with the choke you have a idle passage in the carb cloged up some times you can spray carb cleaner in the carb and clean it out. hope this helps papa65the gorilla that made it hold Ranger 8 15 yrs old SP150 mig 25 yrs old several Victor sets Snap On 130 mig 25 yrs old Lincoln 225 buzz box SA200 F163 78 mdl they all work just added a Idealarc 250/250
Reply:thanks for the reply but I also notice it shut off while welding, any clues as to why this would happen?
Reply:I think you have junk in the carb and it needs to be taken apart and cleaned out real good. Water was always a problem in my G7, the predacessor to the ranger 8.You may get away with trying to adjust the idle speed and mixture.DavidReal world weldin. When I grow up I want to be a tig weldor.
Reply:Another possibility is low oil pressure or a defective oil pressure switch.

Reply:Does it run fine when its still cold? Im sorry Im not familiar witht these welders but I am familiar with small engines, is the choke manual?Alot of times when an engine sits, the carb gets gunked up,so it will run ok with the choke on but once it needs to use that main jet you get nothin
Reply:It runs fine when I start it up, choke works fine, I only notice it when I strike an arc. when it goes back to idle it suddenly dies, but it will start right back up, run high for a few seconds and go to idle. It will run for a while on idle but when I weld it either dies while welding or goes back to idle and dies. Then there are times it will backfire, cant figure it out. But I will clean the carb really good today and see what happens. |
