Ok so I just picked up two Chicago Dries & Krump brakes for $2000 combined. Both are 8' brakes. One is a straight brake and is rated for 14 gauge and one is a finger brake rated for 12 gauge. The 12 gauge brake is like new. The paint on the fingers is hardly scratched at all. BUT the 14 gauge brake needs two parts. One of the handles for clamping the sheet down is broken about midway up the handle, ok so that is an easy fix. The other part needed for this same brake is one of the hinge parts for lack of knowing its proper name. I can easily replace it once I get it and I just ordered it from the company for $400. Ouch. I thought at first I would just cut it out on the plaz table but then I got to looking closer and it is a 3D part which I didn't notice before so that idea went down the drain. The brake still works with the part broke but it needs to be fixed so I ordered it. Figured I was in it so little $400 wasn't going to put me over the top anyway. So my question is do you guys know of a company that parts out old brakes? I know of a forklift graveyard that does that for old makes and models of lifts and was wondering if such a company existed for old equipment such as brakes and what not. I didn't think about that until after Id already ordered the part.
Reply:Pics or it didn't happen. Great score and great price. It will take two men and a boy to bend 8' of 12 gage. I think your 14 gage will set unused in the corner as soon as you figure out how handy the box and pan brake is for everything. Other than initial cost, I haven't found a downside to a box and pan brake compared to a standard apron brake.
Reply:Got a picture of the part?
Reply:not too many moving parts on a brake. if it's the one i'm thinking of i repaired ours at work in about an hour.i.u.o.e. # 15queens, ny and sunny fla
Reply:Pics or it didn't happen... Well heres the pics of the brakes and the broken part on the 14 gauge brake. They both work great although they have been outside for awhile hence some rust but that is superficial. Bent one of the handles on the 14 guage brake when unloading but that is easily fixable. I figure Ill likely sell the 14 and will definitely keep the 12. I don't know for sure yet. The other counterweight wasn't on the other end of the 12 gauge brake when I took the pic but it is on there now.Last edited by bigcreek; 08-22-2015 at 04:03 PM.

Reply:Either that or pull the part off, take off the cobbled crap, vee everything out and weld it back together.
Reply:That part looks 2 dimensional from the face and that is what I was going to do was cut it out on the plaz table but after looking closer on the other side it has a 3/4" or so part coming off the back side of it so it is 3 dimensional. It doesn't matter now the part has been ordered. |
