Picked up a pipeliner today to modify for more outdoor welding without glare. Added jackson 370 headgear to replace the fibre-metal rubber band, leather flap on the back to keep light out, and trimmed the front down along with adding a leather flap to prevent "sun burn" from welding. I also added a shade 10 gold lens.
Reply:nice my next buy. been going alot of outdoor welding and I look funn with a t shirt on my speeedglass trying to block glare lol
Reply:I like it so far, only thing I would do different is to make the flap wider about an inch after it attaches to the hood. It is not quiet wide enough to block out all of the light.
Reply:hicktownI understand the business in the front, but:what is the party in the back all about?Opus
Reply:Bright sunlight Opus. Welding in the sun with it behind you back lights the lens glaring as bright as the weld! Can't see what you're welding because of it. I've thrown a t-shirt or large rag over the back of my hood many times to block it.Only when the last tree has died and the last river has been poisoned and the last fish has been caught will we realize we cannot eat money.                                         -Cree Indian ProverbSA 200 LincolnVictor Torches
Reply:You can buy a pipeliner with a ratchet headgear.
Reply:Yeah but the 370 is real comfortable, Dave.Id just weld with a hooded sweatshirt if the sun was bothering me from behind. Unless of course you weld in 100+ temps.Just a couple welders, big hammers, grinders, and torches.Work will free you.Men in dirty jeans built this country, while men in clean suits have destroyed it. Reply:That was the exact reasoning behind it, a lot of my welding is outside and normally with the sun to my back. It has also been very hot here but will cool down quick and it will be interesting to see if the hood fogs up in cold temps.
Reply:I bought the Miller bib for the front of my helmet and its nice.  What is the rear cover called?  I'd order one to add if I knew what to search for.  I too get a lot of light in from the back of the helmet and would love the rear covering.
Reply:I really need to make back sunlight covers for my hoods.  Is that something you bought or did you make it yourself?  Do you have a pattern or pic of the shape of the chit piece that you used at least?   Sent from my GT-N8013 using TapatalkTiger Sales:  AHP Distributor    www.tigersalesco.comAHP200x; AHP 160ST; MM350P,  Spoolmatic 30A; Everlast PowerTig 185; Thermal Dynamics 60i plasma.  For Sale:  Cobra Mig 250 w/ Push-pull gun.  Lincoln Wirematic 250
Reply:My friend had a leather apron of sorts that was the perfect leather flexibility wise for the covering. After doing it myself by cutting it out first and then riveting, I would suggesst cutting a piece about 1.5 times the width of the helmet and about 2 feet long. After that rivet it tight to the hood starting with the center of the short side of leather and the center rivet of the hood. Once its all attached I would trim it to the desired length but make sure to leave it wider than the hood. I cut mine out and then riveted it but it turned out to be just a little bit to narrow and I still get a little reflection inside the hood. Hope this helps, I will draw up some patterns with measurements later this week and post them.
Reply:I use old green welding jacket scraps to cover up the back of my jackson and Speedglas hoods. Works great when you need to weld inside of an 18" pipe and don't want arc eye and burnt ears. I find that the weld actually looks  a shade brighter without all the bullsh*t reflection coming from behind you. And everyone asks what I have it on there for, like they can't figure it out.IAMAW Local 330Airco 300 AC/DC HeliwelderAirco Dip-Pak 200 with Profax spool gunPowr-Kraft AC225Everlast PowerArc 200stBuffalo Forge No.21 drill pressSpeedglas 9100xxAirco, Oxweld, Purox, Victor torchesLincoln Ranger 8
Reply:There's a kid at our school that just taped a cotton bandanna to his hood, I cant believe it didn't light up after the first weld. It seems to be holding up but I personally to not want the risk of that being on top of my head
