I recently acquired my LLC for my performance diesel shop along with my vendors license etc etc. In this venture I have decided to start designing and producing my own company brand products. Only issue is I don't have a CNC mill or CNC laser cutter available to me. That is where you guys come in. I am going to post up some pictures of the sumps and fuel pump/filter mounting brackets and wanted to know if there is anyone here that could get me lined up with someone who can cut, bend and machine them for me. I can/will do any welding/fabrication required on any of the pieced produced. Thanks guys. First up is the fuel tank sump. This would have to be milled from a solid chunk of billet aluminum. The fuel pump/filter bracket can be made out of mild steel but would need to have precise cuts and look clean when finished as it would be getting bent on a brake for the filter mounts then the two "T's" that make up the frame rail mount would need to be cut and welded together than the assembly sent out for powder coat. Here are the pics of the pump/filter bracket. Let me know what you think. The sooner we can get something together the better as I would like to start selling these as soon as possible. Thanks again guys.1973 Lincoln SA 200, Already replaced shunt coils, Idle board (SOLD)1984 Miller Dialarc 250HF, Miller water cooler, 250 AMP water cooled torch, you know the worx.

Know anyone with a water jet I could get the bracket cut out at?1973 Lincoln SA 200, Already replaced shunt coils, Idle board (SOLD)1984 Miller Dialarc 250HF, Miller water cooler, 250 AMP water cooled torch, you know the worx.

Reply:I'd recommend the fuel tank sump be turned. The holes will then be done second operation on the mill. Parts like this make me wish I had a lathe with live tooling and a sub-spindle. Sent PM.
Reply:It doesn't look like your bent parts were done in the sheet metal environment in SW.  I recommend doing them in sheet metal then when you go to make your drawing you can import your bend lines and flat patterns (can make a straight dxf file from it as well) for cutting and the person performing the cutting and brake work will like you that much more.  It's a small learning curve but once you get the hang of it sheet metal parts are so much better going from part to drawing.  Just my .02Mechanical Engineer
Reply:I can machine your fuel tank parts. PM me for more info if you want to. I used to be in the diesel performance industry so I can help you get started.

Reply:For the bracket....which I see is mild steel but I don't see anything about thickness or tolerance....you could do it fastest and at the lowest cost with the proper plasma. A part like the bracket generally will fit well into plasma tolerances. Remember that when you are talking about machining, laser and water jet....you are talking costly machines that will make the parts slower, all of which add up to higher production cost. There are extremely low cost air plasma cnc's.....and at the other end of the spectrum there are industrial high definition oxygen based plasma cnc's that will cut your holes an slots well within likely tolerances for a bracket, and at a fraction of the cutting cost for laser, water jet or machining. When looking for vendors you need to talk necessary tolerances and you need to look at production costs. This will help your product meet the specs and be profitable. The best accuracy and edge quality on many brackets will be secondary to productivity and low cost in many applications.Jim Colt   Hypertherm.By the way, I'm not knocking Laser or Waterjet.....we produce them as well as plasma!    Originally Posted by TuscanyWater jet would work but laser is a better cut quality than plasma typically. Reply:We have cnc plasma, flow water jet, cnc laser and cnc milling.  I believe the shop rate for all of theses is the same. No higher charge for one process over another so the laser would be my choice.

Reply:Yes. I'm not a machinist though so I would be able to answer any detailed questions.

Reply:Not to take away from people on this forum but you can always get some quotes over at the Practical Machinist forum for those parts.  http://www.practicalmachinist.com/vb...ring-resource/  Be prepared though, most are not as laid back as on this forum.  You will need an actual drawing/blueprint with tolerances, material and thickness, how many parts, and time frame to get them done.  Actually that is things anyone needs to properly quote a job.
