I think I read it here, but maybe I imagined it, I thought a Syncrowave, (maybe others), old school transformer machines with squarewave, and AC balance controls used "chopper" switching to clip a portion of the workpiece negative part of a cycle to control ac balance. How is it done? How do they produce squarewave without an inverter? I have an old book by Linde they talk about the newly introduced machine with squarewave. I'll look up the printing date, it's early!
