Has anyone tried running aluminum through a thermal arc fabricator 252i WITHOUT A SPOOL GUN
Reply:Here's a thread where I did it with my 181i http://tinyurl.com/n3aerc9 , works fine with a few comments. You have to use a teflon liner, the aluminum drags on the steel one, keeping the whip straight makes a big difference, 5356 feeds better than 4043, the 4043 is too soft, anything smaller than .045 wouldn't feed properly. Saying that I eventually did buy a spoolgun for it http://tinyurl.com/o9aga4p ....Mike
Reply:I've tried it numerous times on a Millermatic 200.It's a frustrating task to say the least. Have a bunch of contact tips ready, you'll need them. Alcohol may keep you cool after your attempts. You will soon figure out why they made spool guns and why people pay all that money for them.It just doesn't work well. |
