bosch PS-31-2A drill and driver

Just purchased a new drill-Bosch PS31-2A.I have never owned a Bosch of anything so I thought I would give it a try.It was on sale at my local Lowes home improvement store for $99.99,was $134.99.I know people hate HF but sometimes you get lucky and get a solid performer like this Drill Master 9.6 volt drill.I have had this thing for 7 years and have built 1 battery pack for it.It was under powered but just used here at home,nothing professional but it has done the job for me.This new drill is 12 volt lithium-ion and only weighs in at 2 lbs with battery.I have heard some good things on here about bosch tools so I hope it lasts as long as the old Harbor freight.The only thing I am going to do to the bosch drill is to get a 1/2" chuck for it being it is only 3/8" chuck just because I have some 1/2" step bits and what-not to use and need a 1/2" chuck.I put a Jacobs 1/2" chuck on the HF drill but it won't work on the bosch because it takes a 1/2"-20 chuck and not a 3/8"-24 like the HF one does.I can get a good Jacobs chuck at lowes for about $25 so I might go and get one tomorrow.I would have bought a chuck today but I wanted to be sure I was going to keep the Bosch,I think I will,I like it.It is only 12 volts but it has alot of power plus it is 2 speed.It comes with 2 batteries and a soft case. Reply:Nice modification. I never thought of changing the chuck, a 1/2 chuck would be handy.  How long do the batteries last on your Bosch?

Reply:Lithium batteries generally have a 5 year life span or so regardless of use. They are pretty good batteries for drills hey don't mind too much about charge cycles as they don't have much of a memory at all.Anyways pretty nice device I've been thinking about picking up a small Milwaukee 1/4" shank driver pretty cool little things, spindle lock allows you to use sockets manually if you run out of juice.Hope it provides you years of service.

Reply:Just a fyi (you guys probably know this) Rigid from Home Depot have a lifetime warranty to include the batteries my batteries would die after 5 minutes I brought into a Rigid repair shop they replaced both batteries with just a smile (they did test em)

Reply:Personally I've never been impressed much by ratcheting plastic body chucks. Always prefer metal sleeves and non ratcheting. Then again I'm a fan of keyed chucks and Albrecht keyless.
Reply:This 5000 series chuck is the 2 sleeve all metal chuck plus it has serrated jaws with Hammerlock.It clicks 5 or 6 times as it gets tighter on the bit. Reply:First I bought a PS31 Liked it so much went and bought a PS41 I can't believe how much Tork these little tools have If I would have known about these 12V Drills and Drivers I don't think  I would have bought the 18V Bosch But that is also a Real Power House It will twist your wrist . As my Batteries are dying on my older cordless tools I am replacing with all Bosch Lithium tools  Made in Malasia. Oh well
