Bender change ?

Hello: I have a hossfeld #1 bender and a JD model 32 bender and I was thinking about selling both of them and buying a Hossfeld #2 bender in order to save space in the shop. I'm not sure if that is a good idea or not because i've never used a hossfeld #2 bender to bend pipe, any one have any recomendations. My model 32 makes really good bends and I dont want to go backwards.

Reply:look around on http://www.offroadfabnet.com/forums/...=95&order=desc  this is the section for benders, theres a few pics somewhere on there of guys mounting on a vertical stand..  i'm just using this as a reference  http://probender.com/...  i've seen pictures of people mounting jd2's and pro-tools 105 models vertical and using a harbor freight 8ton air/hydraulic engine hoist ram..   it doesnt seem like it would be to difficult, just have to get enough height for clearance of the ram to the floor..  looks like it would possibly be easier to work with in a vertical position..  if you decide to mount yours vertical, try to get the tubing level as it sets in the bender, that way you dont have to always add more angle to your total bends when using a magnetic angle finder...tackleexperts.comwww.necessityjigs.comhttps://www.facebook.com/groups/mach...dingequipment/

Reply:A JD is really good for pipe and tube, much better than either hossfeld would be.I do bend pipe in my hossfeld, but for railings and stuff like that- it works good for 3/4" up to about 1 3/4" schedule 40 pipe, in fixed radius bends, but it does deform the pipe a bit more (ovalize) than a JD would, and it takes more work and more fussing to get the bends right.If I was you, I would eventually sell the Hossfeld no. 1, and get the number 2, though, as its such a better bender. For everything else besides pipe or thinwall tube, a hossfeld rules. I have bent 1" x 4" flatbar (hot) miles of all kinds of round and flat and square, flat bar the hard way, angle iron, and lots more. A no. 2, bolted down, runs rings around every other bender there is, except maybe a Di-Acro no. 4, which retails for something like 4 grand these days.
