weldnpower 125 DC, What is right

Hey gang.I can buy a nice 125 dc. machine,250 hours on it. welds fine, and the fast run kicks in when arc is struck. But, when plugging in to the gen side with grinder or drill it will not speed up, the switch is set to fast run, but at idle ,,,, plug it in and the tool will run but very slow, rev the motor up by manual throttle and it does as it should. I just won't speed up when it calls for power at the plugs.Is this correct operation or has some part gone bad????? I flipped the switch back and forth from fast to idle, this does nothing. My eight thousand will rev up when anything is plugged in and the switch is set for automatic,,, so I would think the small unit should do the same.. I would like to buy this unit but not when it seems not to be working. I am not sure as to the age, as the new ones has the 5500 watt generator, this one is a forty five and the engine is marked Vanguard, so I do think it is a briggs engine,(I don't mind this at all) the man is asking four hundred for it, seems like a good price but not if it needs work. thanks to all for any help on this.  Rocky.one good deed is worth a thousand good intentions
Reply:Can you get the code number?Newer Weldanpower 125s don't have an idle system at all. This one may not sense for aux. power load, but I would have to see an accurate wiring diagram to know for sure.It's also quite possible that the low idle speed is set too low.Good luck,Bob

Reply:All the ones I've seen were 125 amps AC.  Isn't it unusual to have a DC welding side, but have AC auxiliary power?
Reply:What do you want to do with the welder?  It is a generator, that happens to have a welder connected to it.  If you just need occasional welding it will work.  Check your oil frequently.         I had an older one. I locked up the engine and found out that Briggs made an engine specifically for that welder.  The shaft was a small odd size not available anywhere.  Lincoln no longer supported it and tried to sell me a whole new unit with the subaru/robbins engine.  Mine was not Vanguard, however.
