Reply:If welding in position, i use flashmaster TIG gloves, welding out of position (overheard mostly) i use heavy kevlar gloves with kevlar stitching.
Reply:I use leather tig gloves for mig welding. But I don't do it for a living, just hobby work and all low amperage.Torchmate 2x2 CNC with Flashcut CNC controlsHypertherm Powermax45 Esab ET220i Razorweld 195 MigRazorweld 200ac/dc TigTormach 770, Tormach xstechRazorweld, Vipercut/Vipermig, SSC Foot Pedal Dealer

Reply:Black stallion mighty mig. That's what the LWS had when I needed them for class. Very comfy, good dexterity. I have nothing to compare them to. I think they were $20.

Reply:If you plan to do any "high" amperage dual shield or self shielded flux core these steiners are the **hit! Last forever and let you burn long welds without much discomfort.

Reply:For Mig/Flux Core, I love these - http://store.cyberweld.com/bsxweglmigwe.htmlI have big hands and that makes it tough to find gloves that actually fit well. The 2XL for these are perfect.I've tried the Miller Mig gloves. They felt good in the store, but after I started welding for 15 minutes, they just killed my hands (too tight). I bought the biggest size they had.Last edited by Steve French; 03-28-2014 at 09:37 AM.
Reply:For tacking I use whatever gloves I have on at the time. When it is time to do the full welds, I switch to heavy leather stick welding gloves. Not much selection arround here to choose from and I don't like buying stuff over the internet (I like to try them on first).Mikel

Reply:Lol. Nope. That would burn up my hairy Frodo feet.
Reply:I don't weld for a living and 90% of my welding is low amps so tig gloves work great for me..

Reply:I am also a fan of the BSX gloves. (Tig Version) Comfortable and allows for great dexterity. The millers gloves are also pretty flexible, they just dont last as long.

Reply:For stick welding, I use Tillman 850L. But for MIG welding a prefer the Tillman 850L, and then for O/A welding, I usually wear Tillman 850L. So any one of those gloves is fine with me for whatever process I am using.

Reply:Torchwear. By far hands down the best tig welding gloves ever. Leather does not shrink, which is still a mystery to me how they pull that off, and kevlar stitching will not break or burn. Worth every penny. Ive been using a pair at work and a pair at home since january and they are holding up 100%. They have a bunch of killer products but the tig gloves are all ive purchased so far. Reply:I have a pair of miller arc armor gloves and am extremely disappointed with them for anything heavy. Theyre very light and comforatble for anything up to 1/4"ish, when it starts getting hotter than that they blow. I have a spare pair of firefighting gloves that i keep on the rack just for heavy stuff, your entire glove could be on fire and you would have no idea lol
Reply:If there is a "Lefty" around... No gloves are wasted...But for Most welding and cutting...I wear a heavy welding glove on my left w/a heat shield....Right hand I use a TIG glove.... better control...The only time I don't use this combination.... Is when I use two TIG gloves..... I try not to handle dirty / oily crap with my welding gloves...So they last a long time... Gotta Fly.....Sometimes you just have to take the leap and build your wings on the way down...
Reply:For all welding (35 years in the Local 1 boilermakers) in all positions I used hot mill gloves with the big stiff cuffs from Blue Collar Supply. Heli arcing I held the torch in a gloved hand and fed the wire from a bare hand. Hot mill gloves are good for rigging and fitting too, not to mention BBQing. Not for guys who change clothes when they switch their machine from heli-arc to stick.Last edited by Yokie-Doe; 04-25-2014 at 11:26 PM.
Reply:Those torch wear gloves do look pretty sweet but 50 bucks is a bit much, maybe if I tig welded all day every day. The long cuff miller tig gloves are pretty good but the short cuff ones suck, lots of rigid seams on the back of the hand, wear em a while and they leave a mark. Currently I have an all tillman lineup, yellow deerskin drivers gloves for fitup and layout, some regular 4" cuff mig gloves a pair of the insulated 4" cuffed gloves for heavy mig and fluxcore and then a pair of 4" cuffed tig gloves, all the #'s escape me at the moment. I second what another poster said about not handling dirty and oily things with your gloves, I got some cutting fluid or something on a pair of my tig gloves and when you got em hot you could smell it burning off and actually made me feel sick, had to trash a perfectly good pair of gloves. |
